I was thinking of getting an amp stand for my AD30VT. I certainly don't want to spend a lot for this kind of item (dips into the GAS fund).

I found these two, but can't see any significant difference that would justify $15 more over the cheaper model

$20 one

$35 one

Anyone have any thoughts on why the $20 one might not be the wise purchase?

Hi Strum
I have the one that MF is advertising and it is a very sturdy stand, well worth 20 bucks IMO. Hope this helps in your decision:dude:

I just ordered it from M123, they have free shipping for orders over $29 so I ordered a cable for my Jamman and it came to $29.98.

I wanted to get the amp off the floor and I figured doing it for $20 isn't bad. Thanks for giving me some feedback on this thing - you don't find too many reviews on amp stands, so your comments helped.

Mine is a German import - around $15, with a little something in it to fuel and motivate the player....................and it's color coordinated. :D

But won't at least you or the amp eventually get tipsy?

Edit: that is a nice set up, sort of in the Christmas spirit.

I've always found these interesting (they're frequently available, new, on eBay).

LOL!!! When I saw the thread title, this was the first thing I thought of. Plank, I although I voted black for Robert's Mack, I like your Germino in red, esp. with the color coordinated stand. :AOK:

Hey, Spank....can you send me that stand? I've never drank - I MEAN USED - that kinda amp stand before :rotflmao: and I've always wondered how it will help my playing....and how it tastes.

On a serious topic though....have you guys seen the kick back style stands? Apparently these stands keep the amp on the ground but kick it back - and IIRC they say that doing that (keeping the amp on the ground) retains your amps "bottom end". I have never used this style so I have no idea if it works.

Stands are so great for projecting the sound and making it easier to get to the controls :dude:

I have my Vox AD30VT on the Musicians Friend model and having the amp off the floor and tilted greatly improves the already killer sound....

I can't say for sure about the Zzounds version, but I've got the Musician's Friend $20 stand. It IS a sturdy stand as far as weight capacity, but it does tend to get a little top heavy and tends to tip forward without a lot of effort. The Zzounds stand looks a lot sturdier in the way the amp brackets are mounted and angled and looks like it's less likely to tip forward. 15 bucks is 15 bucks, but how much is worth in damage to your amp?

Ron,

I was concerned about that when I was comparing pictures of the two and then I read a review for the M123 stand:

"...The L-bracket arms can be inserted into the base in the configuration shown, or rotated 180 degrees. You can therefore choose to put the longer of the two L-bracket arms either behind (as shown) or under your amp. Using the "under" configuration (not shown) places your amp's center of gravity much more centered over the A-frame base (and much more stable)..."

I figured making that adjustment without having to make a special bend or cut should do the trick. I also figure if I keep it at the lowest height setting, that should help eliminate the top heavy concern. Since I just want to bring it off the floor and add a tilt, this should do the trick.

Yeah, the M123 version should be sturdier. I do leave the MF version all the way down when holding my Crate GLX65 and it's not too bad. In fact, I pull the adjustment pins and let the arms drop all the way down. It still gets it high enough for what I want and it's fairly stable. You just have to be careful not to bump it too hard from behind, but, I guess that's true of any of them.

Happy New Year!

Well, it arrived today. Very sturdy and seems stable. I ordered it over the holiday so they wouldn't have been able to ship until yesterday and it still arrived today - free next day delivery:AOK: .

Brings the amp up to a nice height, improves sound, stable - not a whole lot more you look for in a stand.

That looks good, Strum. It appears to be a lot sturdier than mine. I may unload mine and get the Zzounds stand one of these days. Right now, between my wife and kids and Christmas, my play money is gone. Oh well, there's always next month... ;)

Better to be between wife and kids, then be between wives - then you would really be broke.:D

That free shipping on orders over $29.00 at Music123 must have expired. I thought I might order one of those stands and a couple of other items, now I see that they're back up to free shipping over $99.00.

I think it was holiday special. I know when I purchased it there was no "limited time only" type statement, but I figured it would be short lived. I don't think shipping is all that much (say $4.00?). If it's that low, it might be worth it.

About $11.00. Not really that bad, but once you've seen "free shipping", any amount seems like too much....:D

Boy, you are right on both accounts. I always have a hard time purchasing something where the shipping is equal to half the cost of the purchase.

I would wait for one of their free shipping specials.

Yeah, shipping's starting to take all the fun out of Ebay. By the time I pay shipping, I could have ordered something from MF or ZZ. Oh well... :thwap:
