Is that because it takes a real man to be comfortable playing a Hello Kitty guitar?? :poke: ;) :D

Let's get that intrepid Brian Krashpad in here--he of the Daisy Rock axe ownership. The man fears nothing & noone!! :dude: He'd buy it in pink, just to flout his mascunity! :master:

Think Bloozcat meant THESE (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=gearbox). I have the toneport GX which I love, but it is standalone only with no plug-ins for a DAW. These have the plugins, and the Gold bundle has many more amps and effects than the toneport. Does anyone know if these have the Gearbox standalone also, are they ONLY plug-ins?

That's pretty funny...:D

Not so sure about Hello Kitty, (especially acoustic Hello Kitty) but the little Daisy Rock Semi- hollow ( only one F hole) seems to have been discontinued and they (MF) are blowing them out for $150. I am afraid I paid more than that on eBay. The thing is a little Twang-o-nator. Mini humbuckers and Grover tuners and a slightly odd wrap around bridge.. . It comes in three colors, but if you want the Estrogen symbol, you have to go with the pink. For those of you with small , um, HANDS, the neck is a little narrower than usual.

BC, assuming you were talking about that Line 6 GearBox Plug-In Silver Bundle, I thought it was a good looking deal, too--so I have one on the way. Supposed to work with Audacity, so we'll see how it works out. To Jasongins' question--yeah, it includes the TonePort DI USB interface box, too.

This one turned out to be more than just the MF "Stupid Deal of the Day"--as I type this, it's still on sale (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=gearbox) for $100, and the mega-loaded Gold bundle is only $150.

BTW, Tiny Tim is S-O-O-O overrated. Milli Vanilli was much better! :dude:

Yeah, that looks to be a good deal if you want the plug in capability. I can get the same plug in bundle for the same price, but without the interface, so on this deal, the interface is basically a throw in along with the plug in package. At least it looks that way to me.

Personally, I stay away from Nady electronics. I owned one of their guitar amps about 10-15 years ago. When the amp broke down I took it to my tech to have it repaired. Nady would not release schematics, so I had to send it to them to have it fixed. It was a relatively simple problem, so what was a $35-$50 fix became an $80 +shipping (roundtrip) fix. Needless to say, I won't be purchasing any Nady products again.

Monday Sept. 28:

Kind of a stupid looking affair, IMO, but this pedal is not what you might think based upon its appearance. I figured it must be a death metal distortion box, but it's actually somewhere between an overdrive and an outright distortion pedal in tonal character. Check out a couple of the YouTube vids for this to hear it for yourself--sounds pretty good to me. Guitar One gave it their "1 Award" for whatever that's worth, and it looks like a very decent deal at $40 instead of the usual $120.

**EDIT 1 PM US EDT**

They've taken this down as the Stupid Deal of the Day, and the price is back to $300. But the $100 rebate is still good for the month of Oct. and it's still in stock, according to the product page:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Silver-Creek-All-Solid-SpruceMahogany-OOO-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=512727

==================

YIKES!! This is quite a deal today, 10/2/09:

Silver Creek T-160 Auditorium-size accoustic guitar, regularly $300, on sale for $200 and a $100 MIR on top of that. So final cost of $100. Sure, it's another Chinese guitar, but the customer reviews on this guitar are very strong, and it's all solid wood--spruce top, mahogany back & sides. For a single Benjamin, seems like a pretty safe bet!

I don't know if I've ever tried extra jumbo frets. I'm sure I'd like them better than vintage since I loathe those. The ones on my DK2M are "jumbo" which I like a lot.

I've never used a guitar with them, but I keep hearing (from independent sources) that they're annoying. It's one of those things that I'd like to try some day, just to see what the deal is.

I personally really like the super jumbo and jumbo frets. No problem there at all. I like the way they look, cool, play and feel.

I would not let these stop me, in fact quite the contrary, they might make just that difference that helped me decide to buy instead of continuing to check out a guitar.

wow. this is timely. I haven't even had the chance to post yet, but I just bought a 1965 Ampeg Jet. For those that know, this is a bare bones, old school P2P Tube amp, Volume, Tone, and a Tremolo. That's it.

I've never done much with pedals, so if you guys can help me out here. Would this pedal allow me to get to the natural tube breakup point at a lower volume, by boosting the output of the p'ups? Sort of like what the volume knob of the pickups do? If so, this is exactly what I need. The Jet sounds AMAZING with my 535, but I gotta get loud enough for the neighbors to hear it before that happens.

Imo the best thing for that effect is get very inefficient speakers...something that only puts out some 90db at 100W, instead of 115 or so at best for modern speakers...the difference is huge. Power amp drive is where it's at with this kind of amps.

For $10 more you can buy the Lpb=1 booster from Musicians Friend all day long.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/electro-harmonix-nano-lpb-1-power-booster-guitar-effects-pedal

Or build one even cheaper. PCB for $8. The kit is a little pricey but the board is cheap and it is a really easy build.

Well, how much wattage does the Ampeg have? You shouldn't need that much power, so it would probably still be ok, though I don't know the specs on the amp.

kidsmoke
October 30th, 2011, 09:42 PM
It's rated at 15W.

This is a whole new world. I understand that changes in the power tubes, the speaker, and of course pedals, will all have an effect.

My experience with it actually got me the opposite results. When I used it with a small amp that broke up too early for my tastes, it actually allowed for greater headroom. That was keeping the gain at pretty low settings.

Deeaa***, assuming you're referencing my 'Peg, wouldn't that make it less suitable for live, where I NEED the volume, and the full range? (Thanks for the input!)

Indeed it does just that. It's a double-edge sword.

I just found out that despite my 'new' JVM is 100W tube which should be plenty, fact is, I can't get hugely more volume at all with it than I did with the 36W Ceriatone. Because no matter how much wattage I have behind the speakers, they still put out 90 and then some dB's out at 100W. With the 36W I could maybe get already 90% of the volume the speakers were capable of, and adding over twice the power only gave me a couple of decibels more, if that. Yes I can now dial in a much more audible&a little louder lead sound, but the difference turns out to be very slim.

If I want more volume, I need to get a cab with speakers that push out more decibels, not more wattage. I have the master volume of the JVM at full blast for leads right now, and STILL I wish I had more volume to compete with the rhythm guitar and the drums...incredible but true.*

And vice versa. If you put an old, ineffective speaker (like my 1976 25W greenback) your 15W will have to work harder to get the decibels, and I'm sure it'll give a helluva warm, nice and gradual power tube breakup sound, just like my Ceriatone did. But you'll lose a few decibels off the max volume it can produce.

However, IMO, 15W tube or not is not enough in any setting with drums, unless the drummer is very quiet and you're content with a very thin sound with the guitar. So I'd have to mic the amp anyway, and thus the max decibels matter not.

(*disclaimer: some of this has to do with the channel volumes; I am able to get it louder still, but in that case I'll have to compromise with the tones I want out of each channel).

So far, I love everything about the amp. It could have been louder, but to Deeaa***'s point, a 15 watter is likely to need to be mic'd in a live band setting anyway..

In reading reviews of the pickup booster, it sounds like it could still be helpful as a clean boost for leads etc., go with an OD pedal for early breakup. At 29 bucks it would have been a cheap risk, at $80, not so much.

I should do a formal NAD announcement elsewhere and continue this conversation there. The pedal world is one I have largely avoided, so getting into the differences between boosts and drives and fuzz and all that...i've glazed over it. Watch for that post, and chime in please!!

Spread the word!

If you are buying anyway, why not click on it and help support the costs of running the forum?

I think this is a big part of it for me. I've come to just ignore banner ads on webpages by default; a sort of conditioning, I suppose. It's weird, because while I see the ad almost every day, I forgot it was there until Robert mentioned it.

Suggestion: As a way to improve visibility, could the MF banner sit flush with the bottom of TheFret logo, instead of flush with top of page?
That would take care of my overlapping-while-zoomed-in

Strange. I wonder if these aren't selling as well as they anticipated they would.

I think they sell a substantial amount of them. They have the simplified control system, plus a humbucker bridge pickup, and they are not expensive. People that have them speak highly of them and some of them modify them with upgraded parts and pickups. Another big positive aspect, from my point of view, is that they have the truss rod adjustment at the headstock, instead of having to take the neck off to access the adjuster. The Fender Classic Player JM costs over twice as much as this, and this is even less expensive than the Squier JM Jazzmaster.

It looks like a super good bargain to me.

I wonder if they are selling the sunburst ones at this same price?
