Got in on the ticket pre-sale! Awesome seats on Alex's side of the stage!

Can't wait. I'm a HUGE Rush fan, but have never seen them in concert. I had 9th row centre floors 20 yrs ago to see them in Edmonton on the Power Windows tour, but the concert was cancelled when a blizzard closed the highway from Calgary (where they played the previous night) to Edmonton. I LOVE Canadian winters :thwap:

Now they are extending their Snakes & Arrows tour and are playing in Regina, Saskatchewan (about 2 hrs from here) for the first time in decades!! It's in May, so I don't have to worry (much) about blizzards :dude:

I'm super stoked! Just had to share!

Always been a Rush fan here as well.

Oh, I thought this was a drumming thread. :D

Cool you be sure to enjoy the show. ADVICE: Take ear plugs. I've heard that their FOH man is going deaf or something. Most of the shows are way too loud to enjoy.

With a band that's been around as long as Rush, it's got to be difficult picking a set list that will showcase the newer stuff and still stick in some oldtime crowd favourites.

What are you hoping they'll play from the archives Trev, or does it even matter to you?

Doesn't matter :bravo: I'm more familiar with their mid-80's and earlier catalogue (Power Windows and back) cuz that's what I was CONSTANTLY listening to as a teenager. You have to understand that I grew up in a very rural setting, and the "popular" music of the day was country/southern rock and metal (AC/DC; Maiden etc.) I was the only RUSH fan in my school and I was pretty rabid about it :dude:

"Limelight" is a longtime fav as it was on the first "Rock" album I got (K-Tel's Rock 81 :dude:). "Signals" was the first album that really drew me to the band, then I horse traded a Stray Cats tape for "All The World's A Stage" and my life changed forever! :rotflmao:

I have the RUSH in RIO DVD (awesome BTW) and really like the "Vapor Trails" comeback. I picked up "Snakes & Arrows" as soon as it was released and have been giving it heavy rotation. Starting to dig into the 90's catalogue and get more familiar with it - "Roll The Bones" through "Test for Echo".

So, no it doesn't really matter. Just looking forward to a great show - which I hear is about 3 hrs long!! I'll be the guy standing with his arms spread wide, eyes closed in blissful rapture! :canada:

words can't express... an awesome show, class act all the way. You could tell the boys are having fun and really enjoying themselves with this tour. I did get a little weapy during a couple of Alex's solos, but managed to hold it together :rotflmao:

Really nice pics - what were they shot with?

In the second to last photo what is that to the right - it looks like chicken roasters you would see in a 7-11 or supermarket.

Edit: as a matter of fact they are in almost every pic.

Shot with my cheapie Radio Shack Centrios digital cam. Lighting was phenominal, as was the stage show. The chicken roasters are actually Geddy's bass rig...

Wow, I bet that was great! It would have been fun to join you. I like me some Rush, but don't know their material that well. Would have been fun to go with a real fan like yourself. Plus I get the sense you would be fun to hang out with anyway. Glad you had a great time and thanks for sharing the pics.

Wow that looks so cool. Glad that it was a good show.

Brilliant way to feed the road crew eh? On other tours they had washers and dryers on stage. Smart way to live semi-human while on the road.

For you Idahoovians, playing Boise on June 3rd! (http://rush.com/low/tour.html)

I'd really like to see the Red Rocks, CO show too.

Seriously, if you get a chance - GO! Mrs T came with me and it gave her a whole new appreciation for the band and why I am such a huge fan.

Loved this intro to Tom Sawyer:

Alex got his 76(?) one-off 355 during a tour of the Gibson factory. He apparently got pretty choked up when he saw his name inscribed on the truss rod cover. It is one beautiful and iconic axe :AOK:

Concert review: Rush returns to rock Regina

Jeff DeDekker, Leader-Post

Published: Monday, May 26, 2008
REGINA -- It took Rush 30 years to return to Regina but it certainly was worth the wait.
Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson made their first Queen City stop since 1978 on Sunday, bringing their Snakes & Arrows tour to the Brandt Centre, much to the delight of a sold-out crowd. Lee apologized for the absence, telling the crowd, "This was long overdue and we've got a gazillion songs, way too many songs, for you."
The performance opened with a dream sequence displayed on three huge video screens -- a nightmare featuring a plethora of snakes wakes Lifeson from a deep sleep. His horror is compounded when the nightmare wakes a second person in the bed: Peart. Then the scene shifts to a trailer where an abrasive Scotsman, portrayed by Lee, berates the frontman to hurry up and get out on stage.
[/URL]
It's a good thing Rush took the advice because it delivered a rock show in the truest form. It was the complete experience -- you heard it, you saw it, you felt it. The sound was crisp and loud and the theatrics included everything that makes a rock show great, from flashpots to lasers to pyrotechnics.
Lee's distinctive voice was in fine form. The 54-year-old still has a strong voice with the complete range than enabled him to hit all the notes, even the high, hard ones. Lee was a multitasking machine. In addition to singing, he pounded out the bass lines, played keyboards and synthesizer and manipulated numerous trigger foot pedals. He still, however, was quick to slip away from his mic stand whenever the opportunity presented itself, rocking out only as Geddy Lee can.
Perhaps the biggest question of the night concerned the line of three industrial rotisserie-chicken roasters immediately behind Lee. Apparently the sight gag is a message to fans that although Rush takes its music seriously, the band doesn't overdo it. In previous tours Rush used vending machines and front-loading washing machines to achieve the same effect.
Songs from Snakes & Arrows were featured prominently, including five in a row to start the second set, and although the crowd responded to the new music, it was the oldies that got the biggest and best reactions.
"Subdivisions" got the crowd's attention and by the time Rush completed the second set with "Spirit of the Radio," "2112" and "Tom Sawyer," the crowd was in full-blown party mode.
Peart and Lifeson took full advantage of their solo opportunities to shine. Peart's drum solo, coming out of "Malignant Narcissism," was so good it was outrageously ridiculous. Reportedly Peart makes each night's drum solo unique by starting with a basic framework interspersed with bits of improvisation. Despite his stoic expression, Peart managed to surprise the crowd when his drum stand revolved and he continued on a smaller drum kit and MIDI trigger pads before revolving back to finish with a rocking jazz riff on his original kit.
Lifeson is sometimes overshadowed by Lee and Peart but anyone who saw him play Sunday won't soon forget his lightning-fast playing. Immediately following Peart's drum solo, Lifeson took to the stage for "Hope," a cut from Snakes & Arrows. It was two minutes of acoustic magic on a 12-string guitar.
Rush reached back into the archives for its three-song encore. "One Little Victory" featured a fire-breathing dragon that set off flashpots on the stage while "A Passage To Bangkok" was set to images from the movie Reefer Madness. The 27-song performance, which clocked in just short of three hours, wrapped up with "YYZ."
Before exiting Stage Left, Lee told the crowd that he'd see them again.
Hopefully we won't have to wait another 30 years.
