Hey folks,

Just wanted to share, one of the nicer things that happened, over at the washburn forum.

Someone came up with the idea of adding figured wood, tuning buttons to a guitar. Purely as an asthetic thought.

Turned out that the Dreadman, being a machinist and a guitar player, had been thinking the same thoughts. He created a situation, where a lot of us players could send him the information about the tuning machines on our various guitars and he would turn the buttons.

Some of us sent him blanks of different hardwoods and some of us just placed an order for buttons. The process was set up as a way to put custom, wooden buttons, in our hands and at the same time, create a small fund, to procure guitars for some children who might not be able to afford one.

Quite a few of us now have Dreadman Buttons on our guitars and a feeling of having been involved with something decent.

After I decided on the buttons of choice for my guitar, I asked if it was okay for a guy to cover up the logo on the headstock of his guitar. Since I had a maple bodied guitar and wanted maple buttons, Dread sent me a couple of pieces of birds eye maple veneer, that I could apply to the headstock. Of all the folks who received tuner buttons, I believe that I am the only one who wanted to cover up the big W.

Included are some pics of my 12 string with the rosewood buttons and the Jumbo with the maple buttons and headstock.

Again, this is just to share a point in time, where a couple of people came together and managed to help themselves and give a little to a charitable cause. I do not think that the door is open anymore. Turned out, that the work involved, was more intensive than first thought.

ps: It seems that the pics are too large to share or I am too thick to figure it out. A little help here????

Looks like I took myself around the block to get this done. Here is the 12 string.

Sorry again,

Now that I have this working,,,

I took the ebony buttons off of the J28 and put them onto my J6. It came with gold buttons and I thought that since I had a set of ebony buttons lying around, maybe they would fit. Perfect match.

Anyone have an ebony tailpiece laying around? I would like to replace the gold "W", that comes with the guitar.

Thanks again,,,,

Steve
