Guitar Center is discontinuing the Peavey Classic 50, at a blowout price of $387. Apparently this is unadvertised.

Is this in-store only? I don't see that price on GC's website.

Alright Spud, you've given me a bad case of AAS and it ain't goin' away.

I just called GC (online sales) and they don't know anything about it. What did ya hear, where did ya hear it and how do I get mine?

I'll also need your address so I know where to send the six-pack. ;)

I have the classic 30.....I cannot imagine how much louder the 50 must be....the 30 rattles half our little towns windows :-)

oh yeah.....I paid more than that for my 30....

Plank_Spanker

That's an incredible price for a C50.

Yeah, the guy I bought my strat from plays his C-50 out exclusively for gigs and it sounds just great! The 30 is plenty for me or I would be looking.

I had a Classic 50 once. Retubed and with better speakers, it's a good all around amp. But, it is very loud. It's hard to push this amp to power tube distortion at less than ear splitting volumes.

If you have the need for a loud gigging amp, then this is a deal.

Awesome deal!

Ummm... Plank, where's Frank?

I heard this from a guy who went into GC and saw them with the clearance sticker. It's an in-store thing only I think.
Certainly worth checking out.

That is a fantastic deal! Great amp (and loud).

What's the speaker config on these amps...1X12, 2X12, 4X10???

sunvalleylaw
February 21st, 2008, 10:23 AM
2x12 I think they use the same Blue Marvels as in the 1x12 C-30

Dreadman
February 21st, 2008, 03:08 PM
They come in 2x12 and 4x10.

Ain't lookin' good though. I've called every GC within a fair drive and they all said they used to have them but haven't seen any in a while. My internet research shows that people have been talking about this great price since November so they might be gone.......

Plank_Spanker

I have the tweed 4x10. It's a sweet amp - just a tad punchy sounding with the 10 inch speakers. If I could buy it over again, I'd get the 2x12. They have a smoother and more rounded bottom end, and you wouldn't have to jump through hoops if you wanted to change the speakers.

I got a hold of a GC manager and he's checking with 10 stores nationally that show C50's in stock. He went home for the day but I expect a call tomorrow.

And check this out - when they had them in stock they were selling for $325 and it sounds like that'll be my price too. I'll post his name and phone number tomorrow if he can find more than one.

Spudman

325 is a steal!

sunvalleylaw
February 21st, 2008, 07:09 PM
I paid a little more than that when you add in shipping for my used C-30 and feel it was worth every penny. Fortunately, mine was an immaculate used one. Still $325 for a new C-50, Wow! Hope any of you guys that want one can find one.

The stuff I read in my Google search indicated that it isn't easy to get locked in one one of these and it turns out to be true. One excuse after another. I did find a GC guy today who's going to hustle for me though.

Just curious - is anyone else interested in one of these?

There are about a dozen left across the country and my GC contact can get as many of them as needed for $325 + shipping. I'll post his contact info tomorrow (after I secure mine - LOL) if anyone's interested.

Just for fun, I emailed GC last night regarding "price matching".
Generic reply, but I'm wondering if phone-sales would match this huge discount if you gave them a specific store which could confirm this "secret deal".

Thanks for your price match request. We are proud to offer the absolute lowest prices in the music industry. Please give us a call at the phone number listed below and we will guarantee you the
lowest possible price on this product. If you would like to place an order, please call 866-498-7882 or visit our

I'm inquiring about the Peavey Classic 50 2X12 combo which apparently is being
sold by some Guitar Center locations at signficant markdown.
Are these sale prices offered also online??

The first thing I did was call their phone-sales number and they said they only have them at full price ($799/2x12, $849/4x10).

Theoretically any store can sell any of the remaining C50's, it's just a matter of finding one who actually will. I'm pretty surprised though that I had to call about a dozen stores to find one that would. Most said there weren't any left and one said I'd have to make the four hour drive to pay in person! Yup, I asked why - his answer - liability reasons?!?!?! LOL

I just talked to the store I'm currently dealing with and they said I should hear back within the next hour. Damn, this is like waiting for an ebay auction to close.

I've always had an aversion to Guitar Center due to what I've considered nationwide half-assery. Well, today didn't give me a reason to change that.

I spent fifteen minutes on the phone listening to rambling gibberish as he worked the computer trying to figure out pricing and availibility. Bottom line -

He *thinks* the $325 price was actually for a Peavy speaker cabinet
He *thinks* he can get C50's for $575
*or* $480

Now he has to talk to his district manager to figure it out, but all the GC DM's are at a convention in California until Thursday. He'll get back to me.......LOL
