He was a great blues writer, singer, and guitarist, and he died too young.
He could do smooth soul music as well, and rumour has it Billy Gibbons borrowed his initials for half the name of the band the boys from Texas play in.
If you scroll to the bottom of this link, you can hear ZZ Hill on "Open House at My House", next to the last song. He was at his best here. I couldn't find a video of him live. He usually played tasty guitar fills to accompany his singing, but he could play great guitar when he wanted.
