Along the lines of the Buzz Feiten thread, how about getting a PLEK job done on your guitar? Some guys I know have had it done and sing their praises. I'm still on the fence.......................

Great thread.

How much is a Plekking?

There's a shop in Baltimore that I looked into and they were asking around $250, but that was a while ago.

Yea it is not cheap to some but well worth it.The trouble is finding a shop with a plekking machine closest to you .These machines are real expensive to buy/own. There are id say less than a dozen places in the states. The other drawback is shipping your lovely guitar to and from if the shop isnt within driving distance:whatever: (most likely) It used to be $100-150 but obviously its gone up as demand and means to supply is sorta lopsided im sure. Gibson is in the process of adding a machine in their nashville shop if not already and atleast one model(335/339?) comes plekked:AOK:

You will have the argument of course a machine cant replace a good fret job by hand:whatever: That would be another thread topic im sure;)

So what is plekking anyway?

Is it laser guided, computer controlled levelling & polishing?

Oops, missed the link that Plank posted. Thanks Muddy!

The answer is that it is a computer controlled fret dressing machine that operates while the guitar is strung & tuned to pitch.

Brilliant!

I guess that I can see a Plek job after a refret or with a guitar experiencing fret issues, but I see no need for it on a guitar that is playing great as is.

But, then again, I've never played a guitar that has been Plekked......:D
