Hi all,

I have been visiting this board from time to time for a few weeks without registering now and it looks like a fun, nice friendly place so I thought I might as well register...and I did.

I saw that there's a couple of swedish members here - well, here's another one from Sweden.

My name is Joakim and I am 37 years old, at least for two more weeks. I have been playing guitar on and off since I was about 13 but never practiced enough to be very good at it. Since I have a family and children there really isn't much time to practice either but I try to find a little time for some late nite playing alone in my small studio that I've set up for myself.
In reality it is a couple of guitars, a tonelab and a computer with sonar on it in a small room next to the garage, but thinking of it as my "studio" makes me feel a little better about it.

Well, I think thats it for now.

Nice to meet you all!!

Tjena Jocke!
Where in Sweden do you live? Great to finally have a "triage" of Swedes here! It's you, me and SuperSwede. We will be a force to reckon with from now on.... :D
Your description sounds about identical to mine in everyway.... except the software and the garage... ;)

What kind of music are you in to?

Welcome Joakim! I am a Dad player as well, though you have been at it longer. I also use a Tonelab, but I often mic my amp and use the tonelab more as an interface into Garageband. Sometimes I play with the Tonelab/Gearbox amps and effects, but I like to figure out how to use my own pedals a lot too. I bet you will like it here!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! :)

Robert: I'm from Timrå, just north of Sundsvall. You asked what music I'm into. Well, I like almost all musik as long as it's well done. When I pick up the guitar I mostly play rock or blues but would love to be able to pull off an occational Satriani or Malmsteen or even Guthrie song every once in a while. So far I have very limited success in doing that, but I keep the dream alive :D

BTW I might as well let you know the gear I use. My main guitar is a black Fender Stratocaster american series from 2002. I've been trying a couple of different pickup configurations in it and am currently using a set of fender pickups from some of the japanese RI guitars. I actually forgot the specifics but they are fairly low output since I find low output pups to work better when using the tonelab.

I also have a black Westone Corsair Deluxe HSH that I bought in the US back in 87. It's actually an ok guitar even though it really could need new frets.

To complete the collection of electric guitars I have a telecaster I put together from parts bought on ebay. Not really satisfied with how this one turned out so I will probably sell it.

Lastly I have a beautiful and very good sounding acoustic. It's a K. Yairi DY55.

I play through the tonelab, sometimes via a Keeley modded Boss BD2, into the soundcard in my PC. I do own an amplifier but it's rubbish and is rarely used.

Good to hear, Joakim!
I'm from Umeå, which is not that far north of Timrå.

Marnold and other hockey fans might be interested to know that the small town of Timrå has produced quite a few excellent hockey players over the years - am I right Joakim?

Yes you are right about the hockey players Robert. The most known active hockey player from Timrå today is Henrik Zetterberg who is currently playing for Detroit Red Wings - doing a very nice job too if you ask me.

Well, I used to go to high school for a year in 1987-1988 in california and I got to hear a lot of different pronounciations of my name. But if you try something like this I think you get quite close: Youakim - accentutate the 'you' part, not the 'kim'.

Hank is my hero. If I were to get another Wings jersey, his name would be on it. I would assume he will be captain when Lidstrom (another Swede) retires.

Of course you too are welcome to visit me if you happen to be visiting Norrland!

From Wikipedia:

For other uses, see Småland (disambiguation) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sm%C3%A5land_%28disambiguation%29).

The provinces of Sweden with Småland highlighted.

Småland (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c7/Sv-Sm%C3%A5land.ogg) (help (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Media_help)·info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sv-Sm%C3%A5land.ogg)) is a historical province (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_Sweden) (landskap) in southern Sweden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweden). Småland borders Blekinge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blekinge), Scania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scania) or Skåne, Halland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halland), Västergötland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%A4sterg%C3%B6tland), Östergötland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96sterg%C3%B6tland) and the island Öland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96land) in the Baltic Sea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_Sea). Unlike most other Swedish provinces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_Sweden), Småland has never been united as one Swedish county. The name Småland literally means Small lands.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Thus Småland lies near the head of the Swedish penisula ;). It means small-lands, but from the looks of it, that can probably be chalked up to the notorious Swedish humility.

The phrase:

For other uses, see Småland (disambiguation) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sm%C3%A5land_%28disambiguation%29).

is quite amusing. I'm afraid to click the link.

You´ve done your homework Tota!

My town is located 377 meters (1 236,87 feet) over the ocean, that is why the area is called "the highlands".
