Duhvoodooman's Zonkin' Yellow Screamer is a Hell of a Screamer. :bravo:

Out of us lucky fretters to have one of these, which chip (or opamp) are you using in yours? I put in the latest one DVM sent me, can't remember which one it was.

I think I have 4 different ones to choose from, but I haven't made up my mind which one I like the best. Honestly, I've forgotten any differences between them at this point... :whatever:

DVM, I also have a little issue with my cool/normal/hot switch. It's not working properly anymore. It's stays on normal setting no matter how I flick the switch.

I have a habit of swapping stuff out. Right now I still have the JRC in there but that may change again...you know me... Mine still works perfectly. Of course I usually just leave it in normal mode all the time.

I can't remember either but I love the one that is in there now. It's not the one that was in it when it arrived. I'll take it apart in a bit and let you know.

I used my modded TS9 the other day at the open mic. I know that I like what the ZYS does but until I got to compare I wasn't sure just how much better it really is. Now I know. It's SO MUCH BETTER. :AOK:

I pretty much leave that last IC I sent to you guys (it's a TI TLC2272ACP; enough alphabet soup there?) in my ZYS all the time. I like its combination of clarity and smoothness without being "too hi-fi". That expensive Burr-Brown chip I tried once in my ZYS fell into the latter category, IMO. It had an almost sterile sound to it. After all, the purpose of an OD pedal is to sound "dirty"!

Robert, if you want to send your ZYS back to me, I'll check out the switch for you. PM me for address info. Or you could open the back and take some close-up pics, and I can try to troubleshoot from 2500 mi. away! I take it personally when one of my pedals isn't working 100%! :flamemad:

UPDATE:

Just to recap, the original 5 ZYS's shipped with these 4 opamps:

JRC4558D (original TS-808 chip; installed in the ZYS as shipped)
TI RP4558P (popular TS opamp used in several boutique pedals)
STM LM833N (low noise opamp well suited for the ZYS's high-gain modes)
TI TL072 (popular opamp for TS-type OD pedals)

I later read a rave review of the TI TLC2272ACP, tried one, and was very favorably impressed. I provided one (free of charge!) to each of my original 5 customers and substituted it for the TL072 in later ZYS sales.

I should try that baby. Although I love that smokey overdrive the JRC provides. I know now what they mean by "smokey". Sorta a gravelly grrrrrrrr overtone to the overdrive. Earthy is another description.
