How organized, or unorganized, your desktop is has been rumored to be a reflection of one's personality. Kind of like how kempt or unkempt one keeps their abode. Ah, who am I kidding, I just want to see your desktops.

Here's one of my desktops from my office. This one in particular is running Ubuntu Linux using E17 as a window manager.

So how do you capture your desktop to put into a file so that I can post it? I'm clueless. I have XP.

There are many programs for grabbing the screen or windows..

I been using LViewPro for YEARS and YEARS..
simple program with good features..

http://www.lview.com/download.htm

it's a trial version.. it use to be freeware.. ohwell..

I think this site still has the license free version here:
NOT Illegal.. the old version was free or shareware with a nag screen after 20 days!

Here is the view at home. My work machine currently has more clutter.

In mac world, one uses "Grab" that comes installed, as one easy way.

Thanks! OSX has a bunch of nice ones installed, including these, and I have it set to cycle new ones through every half hour. The iMac provides a nice work space. Much nicer than my OLD laptop I am currently on. Much more room for multiple windows so you can see what you are doing, and even have a vid playing while you are doing something boring, like reconciling the business books, etc.

Spud just do Shift Prt Scrn on your keyboard. It copys your computer screen and then you can open up something like photoshop or corel photopaint and paste the image on a new project sheet. You'll have to resize the image though cause it will be at the size of the resolution you have on your screen.

So how do you capture your desktop to put into a file so that I can post it? I'm clueless. I have XP.The simplest way if you don't have any image software (Photoshop, etc.) is to just push the PrintScreen button on your keyboard, open MS Paint, Edit/Paste, then save the image as a jpeg.

I changed my desktop and I still have some Icon cleaning to do - need to be hooked up to the network at work to move some to RocketDock.

And since I don't have a MAC (said in a whiny voice), I don't know how to capture the desktop except to take a photo.

It's the same as my avatar, but a better view. Hmmm, maybe it's time to make the room into a real guitar room:whatever:

My current desktop - I have about 180 MB of desktops - many downloaded and some made by myself. I switch them all the time - when I get bored I let the Mac switch them every 15 minutes :thwap:

That's a cool one. The home iMac cycles through the mac stock ones, and my other machines cycle through a mix of stock type ones and personal photos, etc. I have loaded. Where did that one come from?

Gil Janus
April 7th, 2008, 10:43 PM
NASA - it's from the ISS. The file name is:

gpw-200702-49-NASA-ISS007-E-10807-space-sunset-20030721-Pacific-Ocean-large.jpg
I downloaded it on the 15th of Feb. It's only a 704 KB file - but its 3032 x 1986 pixels :bravo:

Just google the file name - it's unique! :AOK:

Oh, I am not kicking you. I have a copy of Windows XP too. It is cool you can run both. I have not found reason to use it though, and it is still not installed. If I start doing more family law, I might install it to run the local Idaho child support programs. Quickbooks is what we use to get out stuff together for the accountant, and she does the taxes. My QB is mac based though.

Here's mine, pretty basic. Slackware 12.0 with the default version of KDE. I'm running a custom 2.6.25-rc8 kernel, but you can't really tell that from the screenshot :)

Around 10:00 this morning I was switching programs and had the just the desktop displayed and I sort of zoned out. I was staring at the guitars and wishing I was at home playing. Of course the Dir of Materials (the bosses boss) comes up behind me and she asks me what I'm doing - I just smiled and said I was miles away from the office.
