We had a good time today, Ted, Scott and myself. We went to a couple of music stores in Boston and tried some guitars.

One store we went to was something else. It was a vintage guitar store, and we could barely find it, even though we had the address. Turns out it was a crowded little place on the third floor of some sort of office building. We knocked on the door, and in we went. 4 big Italiano Americans were sitting there playing old vintage guitars. They were somewhat hostile in the beginning, until I mentioned I was from Canada. (at one point, I was sure we'd end up with cement shoes and dumped in the harbour....)

They were drinking beer and playing some really old Tele's, and one of they guys gives me a Tele and tells me to play it. He says, it's a real nice guitar; it's worth $50,000 so try it out. Unreal! And so it went on for a while. It really was something else. The owner said he had just about any kind of vintage guitar - "what guitar do you want to buy? I probably have it if you want to buy it". Errh, I didn't quite have the kind of cash on me! :D

Anyway, I'll post pictures soon when I have more time.

Scott and Ted - thanks A LOT for coming to meet me today. I had a great time.

Three Fretters managed to meet up in Boston today - two of them who were the genesis of the Fret - Robert and Tremoloman (Scott) - and Tjcurtin1 (Ted). Robert was very gracious even though Scott and I managed to get ourselves lost on our own local subway system (we were so busy talking music and everything else we didn't realize we had got on the wrong train....!), leaving him standing on a street corner outside Symphony Hall for quite some time...

It was really fun to actually shake hands with guys you've felt a connection to through these 'pages' - there I was at Daddy's Junky Music across from Berklee School of Music, getting a personal demo of the Vox ad-30 from The Man himself!

Robert you will all recognize, and that's Tremoloman on the right...

Robert with the axe he's always dreamed of....

(Sorry the pics are so small - couldn't manage to get them to show up larger)

I got to sit in (well, barely) with Scott and Robert on some really nice acoustics... Then there was the visit to the mysterious and little known (and hard-to-find!) Bay State Vintage Guitars; I'll let Robert tell you all about that when he posts the photo of himself with a very valuable vintage Tele.... Talk about local color!

I was pleased to find that the warmth that is a quality of this forum is as real as it seems on-line. I had a great afternoon with Scott and Robert; I hope that we'll get the chance again! Scott, great to make the acquaintance of a local Fretter. Robert, thanks again for all your work on this great meeting place. AND BEST OF LUCK IN THE MARATHON!

Sounds like you had a fun adventure! Would have been hard to run in those cement shoes anyway, so glad you avoided those. ;-)

The most pics ended up on Robert's camera, one of which includes all three of us. I imagine we'll see it when Robert gets home.

Check out the Mahogany Les Paul over Trem's left shoulder......I love that guitar...I am still kicking myself for not buying the used one I played at Guitar Center a couple of years back...it was only $550 that day....

Sounds like a Al Pacino movie Robert :rotflmao: I can't wait to see the pictures ;) It's really cool to meet the members in real, even if the forum is a great place but real life is another thing ;)

Great to hear about your fun. I'll go look for a thread about how Robert did on the Marathon (I've been laid up with with a nasty respitory infection.)

I think these "Fretter Rendezvous" events are great. Nothing like putting a face to the name and checking out guitars or having a beer together. Hope I can get something similar together here in the Albany area or maybe down NYC way in the not-too-distant future! :dude:
