Who here has any idea how to make distortion pedals, and flangers, and wahs, and all that good stuff? I've just learned how to solder and I'm tired with effects that don't do exactly what I want. Now I understand learning how to solder and learning electric grids, etc. are two very separate things, but now that I have a means to experiment and practice, I need somewhere to start. Anybody?

You need to look around here a bit. We have a lot of information and you'll know exactly who to ask about this. I'm sure he will chime in soon as well.

Have a look at www.geofex.com for a lot of basic information on how effects work and are modified. It has loads of circuits as well.

The Geofex site, run by electronics guru R.G. Keen, is chock full of technical info on various effects. It can be pretty overwhelming for the novice, however. A good way to start down this path is to buy a pedal kit from a reputable source. I would recommend two here in the US, though I don't know what their international shipping policies/prices are:

Build Your Own Clone (http://www.buildyourownclone.com/index1.html)

General Guitar Gadgets (http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/)

A good kit will insure you of having all the correct parts, a proper & predrilled enclosure, and complete instructions to build it. If you find that you enjoy it (and it can be a very addictive hobby, take it from one who knows all too well!), then you can take the next steps, like sourcing your own parts or even building an effect from just a schematic. You can pretty much go as crazy as you want to.

BYOC will even give you a free simple booster kit (called the "Confidence Booster") with your first kit purchase, so you even have something to practice on before diving into a full-blown pedal project!

If you'd be interested in some of the pedals I've made, poke around in this forum some, or head over to THIS LINK (http://duhvoodooman.com/miscimages/musical/diy_effects_image_select.html) on my homepage....

Nah, Kazz is just talking to himself again.... ;) :D

BTW, another excellent source of information is this site, especially the forums:

The BYOC site has an excellent group of forums, too.
