I hope everyone enjoys the day and take at least a moment to remember the men and women that have served this country or any other country.

War sucks, but it has been around for as long as man has walked this Earth.

Doesn't matter if you agree or disagree in any war, those men and women did not make a decision to go to war, only the decision to serve.

Also stop to enjoy family and friends have fun at the cookouts or whatever it is you plan to do.

It's bed time soon, so see you tomorrow.

Good on ya, Strum. It is good to honor those who have served, without getting into the politics that led to the service. Have a good Memorial Day all!

We all need to be thankful and show honor and respect for those who gave their lives for our freedom. Because of their sacrifices, we have the freedom to do such silly things as post to online forums or buy guitars and equipment we really don't need. Otherwise, we could be speaking Japanese or German or even Russian and living under the tight control of the government.

We should also take this opportunity to thank those who are still living who have served our country. Pat them on the back and tell them you appreciate what they've done!

I don't want to come off as sounding patronizing or condescending, but I mean it from the bottom of my heart, God Bless America!

A good Memorial Day to all. I'm going to cook the fish my wife, daughter, and I caught yesterday. Yum!:)

FWIW....... my Dad served in Korea, and he told me he and a buddy wondered what two 18 yr old guys were doing halfway around the world in a war they didn't understand. But they were drafted and they served. Whether or not it was ever officially declared a war is irrelevant, they were there.
So, ya, I respect our vets.
Happy Memorial Day. :smile-us: :canada: :)

My Dad was steaming out on a mine sweeper for Korea, but the mission was called back. Being raised in Tacoma, with Ft. Lewis, McChord AFB, Bremerton Naval Shipyard, and Bangor nearby, and with a father who served in the Naval Reserve for a long time, I am keenly aware of military service. Hmmm, I am going to stop there and simply respect the service. Have a great BBQ! What fish did you catch? My daughter is having her 5th birthday party (the one where friends come over) later this afternoon, so it will be pink, girly land for a while.

Enjoy those "girly land" birthday parties and hug her every chance you get. She'll be grown and gone before you know it. :D

I plan to. Our kids are at an energetic age (10, 8 and 5) and when I get tired and frustrated, I try to remember Trace Adkins' new song (You're Gonna Miss This) that he released a month or two ago. I look back and already miss some of the kids younger days, although sometimes I am not quite sure what happened during those years. But I digress. Or maybe not. Our citizens who have served have helped to secure those times for me and my family. Enjoy your family time today folks!

Hey, enjoy the party - did she book you for the gig?

Wait until those kids grow up to be 16 and 17 and you are thinking "man, they didn't look like that when I was in school" and suddenly the daughter that has always been a little girl appears to you as a young lady. Now that's a trip.

Enjoy the party and don't eat too much cake.

Maybe you should have Spud come over dressed as a clown - funny man, funny man, hey everybody look at the funny man. On second thought, just send him a piece of cake.

Americans, Canadians, Brits.. whoever, let's take a moment to think about friends, family and and acquaintances that are serving or have served.

yep....being self employed has some advantages....paid holidays aren't one of them.... :thwap:

i've been self-employed for so long i don't think i could go work in a structured environment again....hopefully if i play my cards right i will build the business up enough over the next 10 years that i can than take on a more managerial role (let others continue to make money for me!) and not such a hands on role....right now i'm the "ceo" - "chief everything officer" :D

Memorial Day seems to have gotten blurred and diluted with Veteren's Day. Let's remember that Memorial Day is reserved as a day to remember those who died in active service.

Honoring those that have died and those that are currently make sacrifices would fall into that freedom you spoke about in the other thread.

Yup, I think you're right. The good news is the front door is locked, and I ain't answering the phone, so I'm actually getting some work done for a change.

Nope. Clergymen don't get holidays off. Or weekends, for that matter.

Didn't mean to rub you the wrong way. Of course you have every freedom to honor turkeys on Mother's Day if you wish--but that doesn't make it Thanksgiving!
[I'm an army vet but my dad died in WWII. I honor our vets on Veteran's Day and gratefully thank our troops every day. Memorial Day is dad's day and for every other person of service that didn't live to tell their war story.]

Your point wasn't lost, I was just saying it's no crime to honor those that are serving or have served. Not to drag down this thread, but there are men and women that came home walking that are unable to tell their war story. War sucks, but it has been going on long before our country was established.

So I get your point and let's leave it at that - applied to me, you, and everyone else.

SVL, thanks for bringing that up- mine are 10 & 11 and sometimes I just need to stop and remember to enjoy the fun that we can still have, before they decide I'm not cool enough to be with.

I hope everyone had as great a weekend as I did. :D
