Scored the FDR-1 from GC today

Went to their Memorial Day sale and picked up a new FDR-1 for 79.99 (about $70 off). I demoed it there and really liked the sounds.

Since I was looking for a reverb pedal, I went for this since it also has overdrive and tremolo. So far it sounds pretty good in the basement, but I'll have to play out with it a few times to see. I noticed that the reviews on HC were either "greatest pedal ever" or "worst pedal ever" -- the people who like it are crazy about it, and the people who don't like it couldn't return it fast enough. Not sure what that means. I've only played through a DR once, so I have no expectations.

Anybody else tried one of these?

It's this pedal. Supposedly a model of the 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb. Not sure how accurate that is, but it's got some good sounds!

I went out and bought its big brother this year. I had always been looking for "that sound" that everyone gets from a Fender amp. I tried several and could not find it. Then I plugged into a DRRI, better known as the 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. That did it it was the tone I had been looking for. The 22 watts is perfect for home use. I have four other amps and they get very little use now. I have heard the Fender video on the pedal and it seemed pretty close. It depends on which amp you are playing through I guess.

After a few hours of playing....

I like this pedal. Playing through my Pro Jr, it adds some punch and shimmer. The reverb is fine as long as you keep it low. It's hard to evaluate the gain so far, since I've only used basement level volume and not in a band setting. It sounds like it's some fairly mild overdrive (a la tubescreamer). Vibrato sounds good but I'm not sure when I would ever use it.

I set it about half way on bass, treble and gain, with reverb up just a hair, no vibrato. Then I controlled it with my guitar volume knob. At around 6 on my Strat, it was a nice full, bright sound. As I went up to 8 or 9, gain increased nicely. It also responded well to picking dynamics, with some extra growl when I dug in. And I loved the reverb, since the PJ doesn't have any.

Is it worth $149? I'm not sure. I got it for 79, and I'm very pleased with it at that price, since I got some reverb and some overdrive in the same pedal, along with 2 knobs for EG and vibrato if I want it. I can't really say how close it is to the actual Deluxe Reverb amp. I've read some people say it's about 90%, but I can't verify that.

It made me want to keep playing, and that's the ultimate test.

I plan to take it out to a local jam and try it out there.

The pro junior and the blues junior have the EL84 output tubes, compared to the 6v6s on the 65 Deluxe. Also the speaker size 10 compared to 12. Make a big difference. I was toying with the idea of buying that pedal before I picked up the 65, and playing it through my Blues Junior special edition. But the 149 dollar price tag made me think twice. When the dollar came up to par on the US buck I could get the 65 for 849, and I jumped on it.
The price you paid is really good and when you combine all the features it is a great pedal. To mate it with you pro junior is a great idea and I am sure you will get some great tone. Good score!
