Tele with p-90's??

I've been thinking about getting a guitar with some P-90 pickups, probably a telecaster. I know Squier makes one...does anyone else have any recommendations as to who makes a good one??

I agree...I've only seen the one made by Squier though. Alot are dual humbuckers, and it's hard to find one with just dual p-90's.

I wonder what the reason is for the 13.7" radius on that one from Rondo that GG posted. (cool Cat Avatar by the way GG).

I am comfortable with flat fretboards, but I've never seen a 13.7" radius before.

Fender makes the Aerodyne tele like that, and it's supposed to be pretty cool. For some reason though, I'm really liking the idea of one in the bridge too for some cool blues playing. I've been reading the reviews on the Squier this morning and they are pretty mixed....

GFS makes a Xaviere guitar with dual p-90's but I don't know much about those guitars at all...again I've seen mixed reviews.

G&L's Soapbar Magnetic Field Design (MFD) single coils aren't P-90's, but they're similar. Reviews have characterized them as 'more hi-fi' (more articulation of hi, mid & lo frequencies) than P-90's. I'll attest to that, at least in comparing Epiphone P-90's on my Casino to the pickups on my G&L ASAT Semi-Hollow.

If a USA-made G&L ASAT Special, Semi Hollow or Special Deluxe is out-of-budget range, their Pacific Rim import Tribute Series ASAT Special or ASAT Special Semi-Hollow might be a consideration, since the pickups are the same USA-made G&L pickups. 2003-2004 or 5 Tributes were made in Korea, newer ones made in China and I believe now made by Samick Indonesia for G&L.

Check Flea-Bay, doing a search for G&L ASAT or ASAT Special and both USA and Tribute Series models will pop up in the same search. Some ingorant or devious merchants will list a Tribute as a USA G&L, but the price points will tell the truth...used Tributes should be in the $250-350 range with new ones (check Musician's Fiend) under $500.

EDIT: Whatever Tele, Tele Clone or Tele type guitar (or Strat, for that matter) you look at, check the fit of the neck in the pocket. It should be tight to the sides of the neck's heel, with the idela being absolutely no gap. If you can't slip so much as a piece of looseleaf notebook paper between the neck & the pocket, put it on the potential buy list. If you can slide an index card in there, that's not ideal, but not horrible, but consider chalking the guitar off your shopping list. If you can slip a credit card in there, walk away.

I didn't think about G&L...thanks for the tip. I'll check those out.

I can tell you that the Humbucker sized P90s that GFS sells are very nice , I have put them in my GODIN and they can paly about sound you would want.

Fralin P92's fit into a standard HB route. They sound really good but.........................after playing my SG with the original P90's, there's a difference. The P90's just have that edge that the P92's or any other HB sized P90 substitute doesn't have...............even if the P90's are prone to noise and hum.

A Tele with two soapbars............................would kill! :D

I remember someone posted about these Xaviers with P90 before when whoever it was bought one. That caused me to get GAS, but when I checked their website they were out of the neat 60's colors I like (I'm only interested in the tele-style body ones). Now Krash has got me GASing again.

I'm sure being a Hamer USA the Talladega is a great guitar, and it does have a Tele shape and a Fender-scale neck.

But with a setneck, chambered mahogany body and a maple cap, it's probably more apt to sound like a Les Paul than a Tele, even a Tele with P-90's.
