1971 Strat pick up

I was wondering where I might look to find a neck pick up for my 1971 Strat.
I really don't trust Ebay because I want to be sure it's the right pick up that would have been installed that year. I made a stupid move shortly after I bought it by replacing that pick up with a Fender Humbucker and not requesting that the old pick up be returned. Any help would be appreciated...

Get a copy of Vintage Guitar magazine. There are some original parts suppliers who advertise in there who may be able to help you. I don't have any web addresses for them.

I have two sets of their pickups, including a set on my Washburn X-33 (strat copy). They make good stuff.

Thanks for the reply, I'll check it out. I'm funny about an origianl part. Like if a see a 68 Dodge Charger with 20 inch wheels, that doesn't do anything for me. I want to see the factory mags or the dog dish caps, that's what I'm talking about.... Thanks

It's going to be difficult at best finding an authentic 1971 Strat pickup these days, I would think. 70s Strats are going up in value, so collectors are starting to hold on to their guitars...

When you had the 'bucker installed, did the installer cut on the original pickguard? Was the body routed for the humbucker? If so, the value of your guitar was lowered, and replacing the neck pickup with a newer one won't make much of a difference at this point, from a value standpoint.

I found several listings for 70s pickups on Ebay, but I don't know enough about them to verify year, and if they even came off of a Fender guitar...

Yeah they routed and cut the original pick guard. As I said before I never thought 30 years later I'd still have this guitar, Thanks Walt

Of course you can buy one of his pups measured to whatever you like 5%overwind %5 underwind etc......get a meter and measure the other two and have him match a pup to your set:AOK: He might want the other pups as something to reference a custom wind and it might cost a lil more but not much more than a stock fender pup and way cheaper than a vintage working 70's pup!!! Lindy is the man:master:

70's pups have grey bottoms stamped ink 6 digit number anywhere on back and the last two digits is the year IMHO.........one linked is 73......one number in middle has faded in case your wondering why it is 5 digits.Even though routed out gaurd and body cavity(not sure if ya said this was done) the guitar is meant for you period great story peddaling newspapers:rockon:

Being a neck pup a 70's reissue,69 custom,from fender if you want to be faithful is worth a look.Otherwise fralin, kinman,bareknuckles are real nice. I would put quality in that mojo axe:AOK:

Thanks for all your info, I'm hoping that my 18 year old son can make some money playing with it and have fun doing it. Although I think he's a Tele man. Thanks for all the imput on my project, Walt
