I still can't get use to the P90's, but I have to say this guitar grows on you real fast. I wish I could pinpoint what it is about the P90's that doesn't appeal to me, but they only thing so far is they aren't as "full" as the humbuckers.

These two look nice together. They won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Edit: Maybe you guys could tell me what it is you like about P90's? Maybe I just don't hear it.

P90s appeal to rockers because of their bite at higher decibels with big stacked amp(h)s.
Crank it and quit babying the strings!

Yes, I know what you mean about P90's they take some getting used to. But after you get more aquainted with them they do grow on you.

One of the big things about them is that their tone changes with the amount of volume and pick attack you give them. They're not as even as humbuckers, but that's part of the advantage of them too.

Put your amp on a setting that is more touch-sensitive where the amp is just on the verge of distortion (like a Fender bassman or 70's Marsall setting), then turn up the guitar so that it is just on the edge of clipping when you pick it harder. This is the area where P90's really work great. You get this nice smooth tone when you play softly and they bite really nicely when you lay into the pick. This is really fun for blues playing (try the neck pickup with this setting)

The other thing that P90's do is they rock like crazy when you get the gain up. They sound great for rhythm parts especially. Put it on the bridge pickup and play it through a Marshall or Vox amp sond. Think of the sound that the Beatles got on the song Paperback Writer, this is a classic P90 tone. Or listen to George Thorogood's song Bad to the Bone (I don't really like this song, but this is a good example of that tone). Thats the sound of a P90 in the bridge position. They sound mean as compared to a normal humbucker tone that's a little smoother and compressed kind of tone.

Hey Strum, that's a sweet lookin' pair of axes! I feel your pain on the P90's, as I'm still getting used to the ones in my Washburn. Jpfeifer's right, they do sound better when you crank them up and they sound sweet when played softly. They have a harsher bite than a humbucker, but don't sound quite as full. Give it some time, you'll learn to appreciate the different tone for different songs. Good luck, Bro! :AOK:

It's mainly cuz they're single coils, Strum. Try some of the amp and effects settings you use with your Strats or PV Tele rather than those you use with the Dot.

BTW... that IS a Nice Pair you've got. ;) :AOK:

Strum, great couple there and Jim is right, play those P90s like a strat and let them pull you right into the amp. The GFS set I put in my GODIN are just now getting to where they call out everytime I walk by, kinda like a pup wanted to be held. I'm amazed at the different sounds I can get with them through my Zoom pedal and Princeton 65, I thought I'd really be changing back to my HUMBUCKERS by now , not a chance I'll find something else to put them in.

Well, I am starting to warm up to the P90's. I've been playing around with the RP350 settings and cranking up the amp when the general population isn't home.

I do love this guitar. I still have to fix the screw on the bridge pup and I might address that this weekend.

Take the RP350 out of the loop...
Plug the cable end into amp (commando?) and crank those P90's, ya goof!

It's down for minor surgery right now. I'm fixing the loose pup due to stripped screw hole and cleaning up the pitted pups while it's down.
