first, get the tabs. play it out slowly until you build up muscle memory. Then, you play along with the recording at the same tempo, memorizing the different counting patterns. Then, you're done. It's the technique I use, and it helps.

I'm not sure, RTR, but I think you may be the first one on TheFret that has used that smiley.

That's certainly an orderly way to learn how to play a new tune. Unfortunately, I don't have the patience to do that. I usually end up using a tab to get the chord progression for the song if I can't pick it out by ear, and then just playing along with the tune until I get it right.
