Pickup wiring

Hello,

I was wondering what you guys/gals are using for pickup wiring? On many occasions while swapping pickups around to different guitars I end up with short pickup leads. The wire you get from Stu Mac is very small and expensive. I like having something a bit larger, more the size that comes on the pickups and I like a shield as far as I can get. Do you have any source that might help? I have used cheap guitar cord in a pinch but that is no good if I want to coil tap.

Thanks for the links. Have you tried any of these? It is hard to tell from the picture. The guitarpartsresource looks good and hefty in the picture I will give them a try. I don't like working with the very light gauge pickup wiring.

I'm afraid I haven't tried these exact wires, as I'm from the UK my parts suppliers are different. (I had these sites bookmarked because they sell parts that are hard to find/expensive in the UK)

Although, I can highly recommend cloth-covered wire (though they get a bit hot, so the soldering has to be quick)

In terms of the wire sizes, I think I remember reading one out at 22AWG which is pretty standard and is a size I have used. But wire is wire, to my knowledge.

If your just extending say like standard four conductor wire I just get 22 gauge stranded wire from radio shack and the solid core stuff they sale works well for grounding the pots

Of course if you splice / extend a wire be sure to use some heat shrinkable tubing to insulate

Here is another great source for wiring M29...I use the 22gauge that they sell and its great high quality wire and very reasonably priced, also comes in different gauges.Made in USA!:AOK:
