Im not sure what Im after really, which broadens the scope :D A whammy or wah pedal would be nice, but feel free to recommend anything at all. Looking for anything someone has built, say from schematics from the net, that lived up to expectations.

Im good with building stuff and soldering, used to be my job many moons ago with Polaroid!

Footpedal effects like wah's or whammy's are fairly complicated builds and not what I'd recommend for a first-timer. I'd go for something straightforward like an overdrive, distortion or fuzz pedal. The Vintage Fuzz (http://www.buildyourownclone.com/fuzz.html) kit (a Fuzz Face clone) from BYOC is a little pricey, but you won't find a higher quality kit and it's a very easy build. If you don't want to spend quite that much, General Guitar Gadget's Brown-Sound-In-A-Box-2 (http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=21&category_id=7&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=45) kit is a straightforward build and extremely reasonably priced. You can read more about that one HERE (http://www.thefret.net/showthread.php?t=6302).

On the other hand, since you have prior soldering & build experience, if you want to jump in with both feet, the BYOC Wah kit (http://www.buildyourownclone.com/wah.html) is first-class....

I'd say the FF5 kit from generalguitargadgets.com is the easiest I've built.

If you do the most basic build there are only a very small number of components and the sound is cool even with the silicon transistors supplied. (but get a matched pair of germanium's from smallbear, well worth it imo)

I have built two modulation type effects, being the Improved EA Tremelo and the PT80 Delay. Both are AWESOME sounding pedals, but the Tremelo is substantially easier to build due to lower component count.

I can also support DVM's recommendation of the BSIAB from GGG. Loads more parts than a fuzz, but I love the sound.

Regarding Wah's, I'm always seeing 2nd hand crybaby wah's in pawn shops and so on. If you can get a hold of one dirt cheap they are really easy to modify. I've changed to mine to true bypass (awesome) and did a bunch of component changes I found on the web (rubbish imo, I'm going to swap it back to standard soon).
