Charlie Parker was born on this day in 1920.

It's so difficult to even calculate how much I've been influenced by Bird. There is the long long list of musicians he influenced. There's his phrasing. There's his sense of melody. Simply, Bird was the man.

Anybody who hasn't checked out Robert's lesson with the Charlie Parker lick in it should do so at once.

Happy B-day, Charlie! I too am hugely influenced by him. Probably my number 1 jazz influence. I also highly recommend you watch the movie "Bird (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094747/)" by Clint Eastwood. Really well done.

Thanks for suggesting my lesson. Here is the link - http://www.dolphinstreet.com/guitar_video_lessons/lesson-42.php

Here is the man himself, in one of the few videos available with him. This one is interesting - first a slow ballad where Coleman Hawkins plays first, then Bird. Then a fast be-bop tune, Bird's "trademark".

In this video, Bird and Diz receive awards from Down Beat and then play "Hot House".
