We payed at a local tribal casino last night. In some way it was fun. We had a captive audience but smoking is allowed and we were way up high on a stage so the air wasn't that great. Another fun thing is that it's easier to come up with new comedy material in between songs than the standard bar scene. It's funny watching folks so intently staring into the blue glow of the electronic game screen. Alcohol is not sold at the casino so no wild partially clad dancers made their way on stage.

The issues I have though that made the gig less than enjoyable is that I have to set up all the lighting and PA and make sure the show sounds great and do all the front work and 90% of the singing. So it's very stressful.

I finally get the PA ready and it's like pulling teeth to get guys to do simple checks without constantly prodding them to either keep talking or playing so I can set levels etc. All the time I'm busy setting all this up you'd think while the other guys were just sitting around they could have done a set list or clean up the stage. Nope. To make matters worse I never got to dial in my guitar sound. I plugged in, set my level and off we went. I struggled all night with my guitar. Arrgh!

There is a plus side though. We start at 8 pm and are done by midnight and the money is great. The tribal elder's daughter stood in front of us for a couple of songs and she loved us so we are back in for more gigs. Maybe next time I'll have time to get my guitar sound dialed.

Tell the guys to get off their @ss and do some work.

Where is the casino located?

From the title, I thought you were referring to this.

Man...tough gig :( ;)

I played a Casino last night, too, but it was my sunburst version of the one Strum referred to. :)

I recently saw a band that did a very classy lil 2 minute song, the crowd kinda got on the edge of thier seats as if it were the opening number, but the band used this lil 2 minute song as thier sound check, got everything dialed in and then announced theyd be back in a few short minutes(I think they might have actually used the phrase "potty break" and blamed another memeber jokingly) but I think all of this actually built antisipation from the audience(and got them where they needed to be), as well as getting feedback from people in the crowd as to what tweaks to the sound were needed(if any).

Smoking? But no drinking???????
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Over!

Well, I think it sound like a good experience - I have carried so many amps and set up so many PAs...who cares if the gig is cool!

Did I get you right? You guys got a 4h program? Or did you repeat your set?

A casino is really a strange location and your description sounds like directly out of a movie :-)

I'd like to say yes that we have a 4 hour set but it's basically I have a 4 hour set. The guys just try to follow along.

It was a movie for sure. One of those bizarre dream like movies. It was surreal to say the least. I was actually shocked to look out and see people actually watching us. Go figure. I even noticed a few folks laughing at some of the stuff I said.

Congrats on the paying gig! Sorry about the smoke and the lazy bandmates. You may whip them into shape yet. I have been by (but not into) that casino. I can imagine it was a bit surreal. A little bit "Raising Arizona" and a little bit "Napolean Dynamite" maybe?

I took my video camera and was going to tape a bunch of the show so that I could show you guys but my camera malfunctioned. It kept saying that the lens cap was still on and I couldn't see anything either through the eye piece or the flip out screen.

I did a few things today to it and it started working. I have no idea what was wrong. I'm just sorry that I couldn't get anything to show you all.

Ahh man, we would have loved some video!

I am playing the local casino in a couple of weeks - maybe I can get some video of our gig then.

We 'payed' at a local tribal casino last night.

Was this a clever and well thought out statement relating to the nature of the venue or just one of those happy accidents that makes so much sense afterwards?

My bad. I would have spelled 'paid' correctly if it was intentional because I'm so anal. Pretty funny that you caught this. I missed it. However, Mrs. Spud did 'pay' while she was there in spite of being $18 up at one time.
