View Full Version : New Case Day!

OK, it's no new guitar day, but now at least I gots me a case for my Epi WildKat, Goldie. A forumite on Harmony-Central, Mike Fiasco, sold me a beater Yamaha case he had but wasn't using, for $45 plus shipping. So I paid about half what a new Epi case would run, and we both get karma points on the whole reuse/recycle tip.

Anyhow, more as a means of quick identification than anything else, I always slap a batch of stickers on my cases, because if you're playing with 2 or 3 other bands and each band brings 4 or 5 guitars, well, that's a lot of guitar cases, usually stacked all together in some small dark space. So I went rummaging through what few stickers I had, printed out a couple home-made ones (if you put a piece of clear packing tape over a printed-out design on a piece of paper it looks pretty much like a vinyl sticker, and is fairly waterproof), and slapped 'em all over the case. Between the beater condition and the stickers, she blends right in with all my other cases (better for peace and domestic tranquility out at Casa Krashpad).

Here's the top of the case:

The WildKat is a funky size, bigger than a Les Paul but smaller than standard semi/hollows. So the case is a smidgen big, especially along the north-south axis (i.e., lengthwise), but I'll throw a towel or t-shirt in to minimize guitar movement. Here's a comparison of the big (standard semi/hollow Yamaha) case with my Gibson Les Paul case:

An actual Epi WildKat case would be right between those two in size.

While I had the camera out I took some pics of my Les Paul Classic, I'll post those here later.

Here's the shots I took of my LP (I put a Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge and didn't have pics showing that) while I was taking the case pics:

I think the only logical conclusion we can draw from Brian's photos is that his wood floor has the magical ability to spawn really cool guitars of various vintage and brand.

Cool case. I've always dug stickers on cases. The LP is really cool, too.:D

Nice pics and guitars. The case looks like it works well, and I love stickers. I know you are not a recording guy, but I would love to hear that Wildkat some day. I am very interested in a semi/hollow, and would like to hear how this one compares to the bigger guitars, both 335 shape, and Electromatic shape.

Haha, if only it did sprout guitars, I'd be set.

It was kinda a bear to install that stuff though. My wife and I (with a little initial help from my inlaws) have done the entire downstairs of Casa Krashpad in that stuff (laminate). It spread over the better part of a couple years to get done.

Mah birthday was this weekend...it was pretty sweet, went and saw a funk/soul band at "Lou's Blues" on Friday night that was inspiring(now I wanna learn some funk chords) and fun, had lots of friends join us.
After the show my girlfriend gave me a new guitar case for my birthday, its one of those Musiciansfriend's tweed cases...very nice! I think Im gonna buy the black one now too! I really like all the trimmings, the clasps are solid and the inside is plush.

SBX, I have had the exact same case for my strat now almost two years (Christmas gift from my parents), and love the case. The tweed with red insides really shows off the strat. BUT, be a bit careful of the handle. Mine pulled out. Luckily, no drop was involved. It is a nice case, and I hope they have the handles worked out. I complained, and they sent me a return label. I never did return it, and got one of those MF "we're sorry" coupons that some of us got a while later.

I also have the MF archtop shaped dreadnought case which has been bulletproof. A few war wounds here and there from road trips in the vinyl, but it is doing a good job of doing what it is supposed to do. The cases seem a great value for the price.

I've been lucky with MF generic cases. Never had a tweed one, but have several black box cases and a shaped LP case (bought for my Hamer Special), and so far nothing's broken or become unusable.
