I went to the music store today to purchase some picks and look at guitars. I was walking around looking at the Fender Strats and then decided to go in the back room where they keep the acoustics. Since I started out on acoustic, they still have a magical attraction to me. Anyway I see this Epi sitting there in the used section, pick it up and it sounds sweet. Fairly easy to play and booming sound.

Well needless to say it is now sitting behind me as I type this post. According to the serial number it was made in 1990 in Korea. It has some dings, scratches on the back, and there is a section of binding (about 1/2") knocked off the back of the guitar, but as I said, it sounds great.

Picked it up for $60.

Oh, and I forgot to bring home some picks.

Nice score... (you'll want to get that binding repaired.)

Thanks Rocket. They wanted $75 (which I thought was a deal), but I got it for $60. They just put it out before I arrived. The guy kept saying they had to hold the $75, but I kept asking "So what will you take?" Eventually they grew tired of me and I got it for $60. I think they just wanted me out of the store. My question of "Isn't this week - buy one used Epi, get a free Gretsch hollow body ?" didn't go over real big.

Do they have to remove the entire binding, or can they fill in the gap? Since it has dings and scratches, I'm not looking to make a large investment in repairs.

No, they'll just clean up the slot, cut a piece to fit and glue it on in there. You can just do it yourself if you can get a matching piece of binding. You want something in there to keep it from tearing out.
