Mix a story of having a custom guitar built to replace your first guitar that was wreaked by a baggage handler, and a general, free-flowing history of the guitar in America. Throw in how and when it arrived in the New World, and the various musical styles that have abounded over the years, and the detailed story of a new guitar's birth, you have a really easy read, and a great pointer to some music you might have never heard or even heard of.

I picked this up, and read thru it in about 4-days, it's good read, and has some great quotes -

a luthier is a guitar maker who charges $1,000 per guitar :thwap:
The author, Tim Brookes is a regular commentator on NPR's Sunday Weekend Edition and lives in Vermont, he's originally from England. I really enjoyed the book, especially the interactions with his guitar maker, and the history of the Hawaiian slide players.

I highly recommend this book. :AOK:

This book was published back in 2006. I didn't find any reference to it on thefret.
