man i love being able to vote during off-peak hours....i was in and out in less than 20 minutes!

....on a light note....after i got my ballot (only took 5 minutes) and was waiting my turn for a booth....i asked a young lady sitting in a chair if it was busier earlier and she put her finger to her mouth and shook her head....one of the other ladies said she wasn't allowed to talk....so i asked if she had been bad and was in time-out....got a pretty good laugh from the people around me

i guess she was some sort of "observer" to watch for problems....

We voted on Saturday. It was relatively painless. We waited just under an hour on line, much less than I thought we would have to with it being a Saturday and the last weekend of early voting.

P.S. You Floridians, keep it fair down there now! ;)

Haven't voted yet, but will go either at lunch or after work. The bad thing is that the voting place is right outside my neighborhood exit. I didn't stop this morning, because it was packed with cars lined up on both sides of the road.

My wife and I voted this morning. One advantage of living in a small town is that I could stroll in, get my ballot, vote, and stroll out in less than five minutes.

SS, you probably could vote in Chicago or Florida.

Just voted!!! No lines, in and out in about 10 mnutes. Easy walk from the condo. Pretty efficient. Hard to believe I can say that about Florida!!

FWIW we much prefer to vote on election day. Like the whole going to the poll, stand in the booth thing. Just seems more connected to the process.

Mrs. PBP and Baby Cobra will be voting in an hour or so. I will vote after work. Other STATES early voting is a foreign idea to us in Philly. We have absentee ballots but not early voting. :D

Ditto. I was tempted to hop over from the courthouse to the county admin building when I was at court the last couple of times, but decided I wanted to join the majority of the voters on election day.

In the past I have always voted on election day. The reason I chose to do early voting this time around is that I cannot afford to miss any work time, and there is no guarantee how long or short the process will take on any given day. I can not even get back and forth from my polling place to my job in my half hour lunch time let alone wait on line and cast a vote. Voting early on a Saturday allowed me not to have to worry about that. Personally, I think election day should be a paid federal holiday so everyone can have time to vote and not be concerned about missing work, but that's another issue altogether.

As city government employees we get 2 hours off to vote. Depends on your work schedule though.

voting early for us is 'greener'. both of us can walk from our respective offices to the county court annex. else we have to drive across town.

also more convenient, also saves missing work. :)

but i also understand the desire to be part of the big day. :)

I guess city government leadership understands the fast, efficient government run electoral process, hence the two hours. :D :poke:

Oregon has vote by mail. I got my ballot about 2 and a half weeks ago. From that time on there are ballot boxes at the libraries and other locations. I filled mine out a week ago and dropped it off at my local library which is about a half a mile from my house.

As of yesterday it was reported that more than half of the voters have turned in their ballots.

I don't know if all states are voting for judges or not but I'm at a loss as to what to do about the "shall so and so be retained as such and such Judge".

I don't know any of these judges. I wouldn't know how to vote. What do you guys do about these questions? This is of course asking in generic terms. What would you do if you don't know anything about such posts?

I typically get a copy of the ballot ahead of time, either online or because my mother in law, who is blind, votes via absentee ballot. I then will do as much research as I can online to see what kinds of decisions these judges made and then vote accordingly. I also am lucky in that my closest friend is a professor of Political Science at USF so I usually consult him as well about anything on the ballot about which I am uninformed or just don't understand. When still in doubt, I do what Warren does and vote against them all.

I just downloaded a sample ballot for our county about half an hour ago. I have to leave here in about half an hour. I've already gone through the sample to check off who I'm voting for. I don't have time to research the judge appointments right now though I wish I would have thought about that yesterday. You have a good answer RoG.

If I heard there name mentioned and it wasn't followed by "under investigation", "indited", or "kiddie porn" then they get my vote. That process usually eliminates 2/3 of them.

An especially meaningful experience for me this time, having just finished teaching the American Revolution to my 8th grade class. We've had lots of great discussions, but my fondest hope is that the synchronicity of subject and event will help make them engaged citizens and life-long voters. Our democracy is such a hard-won gift and such an enormous blessing - our participation is a sacred responsibility in honor of those who gave their lives to establish it and is a duty we owe to our fellow citizens and especially, to our children.

So if you haven't voted, get up and GO! You'll feel good that you did!

We voted this afternoon around 4:30 - lines only about 10 deep - less than 5 minutes to actually voting. I was voter number 2056 in Northfield. They are expecting 70+% of the voters today in Vermont.

We voted, me, my daughter, her partner and I handed in my eldest granddaughter's absentee ballot - she's off at college, a sophomore at Johnson & Wales in Providence, RI.

We meet lots of friends - stood around and discussed many different topics.

It was a good day. We participated and were proud to wear our "I Voted" stickers. :AOK:

Thank you, thank you, my fellow Americans! We shall triumph! We shall succeed! Or at least, we shall plug into our amps through a good distortion pedal....

You've got me thinking there, R_of_G! The purpose of an effects pedal is to take the true signal and distort or manipulate it into something that suits your own objectives. So wouldn't I be qualified to be the White House Press Secretary?? ;)

I am amazed at the number of conservative guitarist, always thought of them to be liberals.

Anyway, my stand, my take:

For those that voted and those that didn't - you've witnessed a historic moment. For those that voted for the other guy (me) we should hope for Obama's success. It's no longer about him, it's about us, America and the World.

Why I didn't vote for him is no longer important, what's important now is right decisions.

Call it corny, call me blind, but it's time to move forward. Remember, the past 8 years haven't been fun (well, except for the guitar part).

Ok, you can lock the thread up and throw away the key.
