I have no clue what neodymium even is! According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neodymium):

Neodymium is used in very powerful permanent magnets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet) - Nd2Fe14B (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neodymium_magnet). These magnets are more expensive, but lighter and stronger than samarium-cobalt magnets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samarium-cobalt_magnet). Neodymium magnets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neodymium_magnet) appear in high-quality products such as microphones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microphone), professional loudspeakers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudspeaker), in-ear headphones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headphone) and computer hard disks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk) where low weight, reduced size or powerful magnets are required.
Lots more good stuff where that came from, like this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neodymium_magnet). :)

It's an element, a rare earth metal, atomic number 60, in the Lanthanide series. Ain't ya glad ya asked? :D
