Congrats Robert.

I gather that you didn't have a chance to play her before purchasing the guitar. May she be as nice as the ones you have handled.

Once more, congrats on a new axe.

I have read lots of good things about Suhrs but never ever see one around. I look forward to hearing you play one when good guitar meets good guitarist.

Some may recall I got myself a used Melancon Pro Artist a few months ago. Now that I've had it a while and have it adjusted to how I want to play it I have to say it is well worth what I paid for it. The guitar plays very nicely, and the Kinmans on it are not only silent, they sound really good.

It was almost as bad as me talking about pickups!

So we need specifics! Body wood, pickups, etc. Dare I ask how much less expensive the used one was than a comparable one new?

Awesome. I love Suhrs. The only bad thing is that now that you own a boutique guitar you can't just play it through some pedestrian amph like a Marshall. You'll need a boutique amph as well. I'm thinking Divided by 13, 65amps, a Sampson era Matchless. There goes your kid's college fund.

Robert
November 19th, 2008, 04:38 PM
Thanks guys!

It's Olympic White.

It has a C vintage medium neck with stainless steel frets. It has Suhr V60 LP pickups and the only thing I am missing on it is the Silent Single Coil system (SSC). I only need that for gigs, and I could by a back plate system with it installed later on.

The price was 40% less than a new one.

It has 2 dings - they are visible but I don't really care about that. It is reported to be in fantastic shape otherwise.

It has a Callaham steel block, and a Gotoh 1088 bridge.

It has a wanger bar.

Oldguy is dead on - that's where it's at right now, in NJ. Shipping tomorrow.

Guess what - Canada Post workers are apparently on strike! :thwap: Just my luck - it's being shipped with USPS.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, I already have a boutique amp - the Heatseeker! It's all handwired with quality parts.

That is great news Robert! It was really exciting following your posts and your reflections on what to buy and what not to buy. In the end I think you made the right decision to go for the Suhr. Olympic white is a beautiful colour and the guitar will lift you up into new spheres! Can't wait to listen to your clips and to watch the videos you will make. Im curious how the flat fretboard radius is?
I like a 12" radius cause its flatter than 9.5 or 10"...but a flat radius sounds very appealing(possibly)...and its gotta be less expensive to produce.

Im almost scared to ask(not really)...but how much does a used Suhr go for?

Robert
November 20th, 2008, 10:58 AM
The radius is 10" - 14" compound.

The prices for used Suhr guitars are usually from 1700 and up, depending on the model.

Jimi75
November 20th, 2008, 01:52 PM
The radius is 10" - 14" compound.

With this radius you can play a very low string action. I remember you mentioned one time you like to play wiht the strings as low as possible. My 62 vintage Strat has a 7,25" radius and the strings have to be set up rather high, otehrwise you can not bend. This s**ks quite a bunch at times. Robert, you are one lucky man. I like the Professional S1 in Ocean Turquoise a lot. some dealers here who have then...

Wow Robert! I missed the great news.

When is the Stork scheduled to drop off your new baby?

I'd love a 10-14 compound radius.

My guitars have 12" radius except for the Godin 5th Ave which has a 16" radius.

Did you want the rosewood board over a maple board, or was the deal so good that it didn't matter?

November 23rd, 2008, 10:23 AM
On a white strat, I prefer the look of rosewood. There is no schedule of delivery - as soon as the post guys can get them over here.

My Suhr is in my office right now... :D

Sweet, sweet. I will test drive it more over lunch at home through my amps.

First impression, very nice quality this thing! Only issue is the action is too low and the allen key sent doesn't fit. I've got lots of those at home though, so I'll soon make some adjustments to the action.

The neck was the part I was worried about. Would I like it? Would it be too chunky and would it suit my hands? From just playing it a few minutes in my office, I am very happy with the feel. It's easy to play and very comfortable. Not chunky at all!

The steel frets are fairly narrow. Fantastic polish on them - super nice to bend and play, since they are still fairly high so bending and chording is easy.

Oh, the case is nice too. :D Has combination locks on it and the case looks like high quality.

I played for an hour already through my Heatseeker. Man, it sounds incredible this guitar. The pickups are just indescribably good sounding. This is easily the best sounding Strat guitar I have ever played, and I have tried quite a few Fender Custom Shop and Signature strats. Dang, I even have GAS for it even now when I have it! Something about that guitar face/pose and a Mr Rogers sweater that just don't fit together.

However, I will say that is a nice looking guitar. A boy and his toy.
