Well, after tooling around I have cleaned up the original, made it a lot less musically cluttered and I will go in and re-cut the guitar but in the meanitme I'm looking for thoughts on if the mix and if the instrumentation works better..

good stuff ! as far as the mix, the drums track is very overpowering/almost dominating the mix (for my taste), tho they sound really good and everything is nice and clear. and jazzy!

Hey Maxwell,,

Am I correct in believing that you are on piano and trumpet? And is there a little more brass in the background?

I think that it is excellent. It hits me more like a background piece. Like there should be something else going on, out in front. Which is not meant to sound like criticism.

I am glad that you are out there, making something very interesting to listen to,,,,,

Thanks again for the ear Andy..

Yes, I hear it now too.. now that you mention it..

I am going to re-record the guitar part through a real mic'd amp soon so I will be making some adjustments..

Appreciate the thoughts!

Hiya Steve.. well, yes everything you asked is true.. as in this is all my creation, but in only in a virtual world.. the Piano is really a synth, as is the trumpet.. neither are 'real' .. I hope that doesn't dissapoint you too much..

I record/create/manipulate all the backtround stuff as individual midi files. Then I convert each file into a 'virtual' instrument. For example the Piano is a 1898 Steinway that some piano tuner took individual key samples from and put up as a free soundfont on the net. Basicly it is like one of the keyboards at wallmart with all the sounds, except the 'sounds' are samples of real isntruments. As is the horn. There is a ton of free instruments on the net.

The sounds on my cheesy keyboard certainly don't cut the mustar so it is nice to be able to have a better pallet of more colors.

Thanks again for the ear!

(P.S. .. I am a 'bit' of a trumpet player in real life and have 3 of them under the bed and in the closet.. but I didn't want to kill any cats in the neighborhood or freak out the neighbors who live close by.. they never have invented a trumpet that wont have the family climbing the walls, the lil suckers are pretty loud)
