How can they make them this cheap? Notice how a 20 watt amp is called a 150 watt amp on the page.

Probably not the greatest amp, but still.

Imagine a stack of 50 of these little guys...
Still would cost less than most boutique amps. At least it would look kool. :D

Yeah, that 150W peak is right before the speaker shreds into a kazillion pieces and the circuit board melts into a lump o' goo...

Cheap sometimes means "cheap" I fear ;)

How can they make it cheap?

1 20W general purpose audio amplifier IC
Power transformer
Few caps and resistors.

Bammo amp.

And just in case it's not commonly known, there is only one measurement for power output of amps and thats RMS. Anything else is marketing babble.

Then of course you have THD figures to consider. Sure it may do 20W RMS, but what are the distortion figures like at 20W? I'm betting not great, and I don't think I'm alone in thinking solid state power stage distortion is one of the worst sounds in the world. Worse still, if it's hard clipping at full noise (I also am betting it is) then that speaker is toast sooner rather than later.

Forget you ever saw it and move on :)
