Savoy Brown - May Be Wrong

Id never heard this before yesterday, my Sirius Blues 74 station has been undergoing some changes in the last month...so Im hearing different stuff. I heard this yesterday and at first listen I thought it was some Peter Green, Mayall's or Mac I hadnt heard... to my surprise it was this guy, Savoy Brown...Im not familiar so I plan to look a lil further, but heres the song I heard, check it out!:AOK:

That 'guy' Savoy Brown was actually a Brit blues band going back to the late 60'ss-early 70's. Here's a clip of a tune off the 1970 album 'Raw Sienna' that I still have the original vinyl (Parrot label, subsidiary of London Records) from my college days. As you watch it, you'll see the personnel listed...among them, 'Lonesome Dave' Peverett who went on to Foghat fame, but Chris Youlden was the lead vox & piano man, Kim Simmonds on lead guitar.

This cut off the same album (the color cover of the one I have sits in the background here at the beginning) features Lonesome Dave on bottleneck:

I noticed on that first video it showed the back of "Blue Matter"...that one looks right up my alley! "Grits Aint Groceries..." "It Hurts Me Too" and "May Be Wrong".
I really dig the blues...but I dunno bout that 60s-70s rock sound they got goin(no offense)...but after jams lately, my friends and I have been gathering round the youtube and playing Jukebox on it, one of them turned me onto Lonesome Dave(Foghat)...but I cant remember the song:thwap: but it was a heavy jam!(whatever it was called) :thwap:

Bus, ya got me scurrying to my wall o' vinyl this morning...pulled this album out and speakin' of blues...here's an oldie that Lonesome Dave & Foghat did their own take on...

Otherwise, maybe Foghat is best known these days for this tune that hamburger chain Carl's Jr. used for the backing track to a tv spot featuring a hot, sweaty, blonde riding & writhing on a mechanical bull & consequently sold about million messy hamburgers to testosterone-jacked pimply-faced young bucks here in California

Everything above is so very true.first encounter with Savoy Brown was in Chicago where I grew up.you will simply love Louisiana blues on Blue Matter.the encounter came when seen as a backup to Led Zeppelin along with Jethro Tull for good measure..What a concert! where it was held they normally have two shows but everyone was asked to leave after the first which kinda blew until seeing the masses waitng outside the Electric Playground aka Kinetic theater.
this was before Chris Youlden left and Lonesome Dave formed Foghat and passed away.
Kim Simmonds still heads up the band.I think I have one of his latest.The Blues Keep Me holding on but know for a fact there have been others released.Strange Dreams and Steel come to mind.still have Raw Sienna and Blue Matter on original vinyl.Hey I am missing one here.A Step Further is also in the mix along with other Tull albums This Was,etc.. Jam good stuff

We used to go see these guys whenever they came to town. I remember seeing them in Birmingham MI, If I remember correctly I think it was the Paladium, they were awesome. I remember the tune Louisiana Blues the most that you mentioned!

Always dug Savoy Brown,the song that sticks out most to me is Tell Mama.I remember going to a Humble Pie concert at the L.A. forum way back when,I think the tickets cost about 3.50 or 4.00 back then,third row on the floor,well the opening band was Foghat and I never heard of them before,well they just rocked the place out two ovations.Humble Pie came out and gave it their best to keep up with them boys.I never knew till now about the band members from Savoy Brown and Foghat.Cool post thanks.Sumi:D

If you are referring to Savoy Brown's Blue Matter the whole thing rocks with Blues.kinda like Frito lays chips hard to pick just one cut they're all good.Everyone will have faves though :AOK:

Why does it have to be Hendrix?
I mean seriously, recorded in '69...how many months of "heavy" influence could there have been???
I like Hendrix, but like him less and less when I hear people compare everybody to him...not unlike SRV. And even less when he becomes the be all of Rock-n-Roll guitar influences.
When I heard that song...I heard what I thought sounded like Peter Green*shrug*

I still have my Blue Matter LP...

I played that album to death when it first came out. The whole album is great, but the old Muddy Waters tune Louisiana Blues is my favorite. What a great blues jam song.
