I was at Barnes & Noble getting a birthday gift for my daughter when I came across this book while browsing for something for my wife 'to get me for Christmas'.

The title is obviously what the book is about, but in 192 pages for $20 (or less) it just happens to seamlessly and painlessly integrate a course in theory and guitar instruction suitable for any style or genre, and for any level of player, whether you've just gotten your first guitar and have been playing for an hour, or if you've just got that insatiable appetite to keep learning how to master your instrument.

Here's a link to it at Amazon.com:

How To Write Songs On Guitar by Rikky Rooksby (http://www.amazon.com/How-Write-Songs-Guitar-Guitar-Playing/dp/0879306114/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1229567493&sr=1-1)

And here's the link to a bit of what's inside. The Index of songs and artists referred to as examples to listen to for grasping the concepts discussed should tell you how wide it reaches.

Look Inside (http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0879306114/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link)

It's actually one of series by the author (you'll see the rest listed at Amazon), with the other books taking certain chapters of this one and expanding them as topics of their own.:AOK:

It's under the tree and I can't wait til Christmas to thank my wife for 'getting it for me'.

I think I have mentioned this book before. I have it and it is a very, very good book in that it explains things simply without a lot of musical theory required. I definitely learned from it.
