It's time for the annual what will/has been released at NAMM thread.

This new reverb unit is supposed to make its debut at this year's show:

Unfortunately it is also the "We postponed its release" show. It is fun to see all the new stuff.

Will any fretters out there be attending NAMM this year? Although I must say I usually find the place rather exhausting, I'm particularly looking forward to it this year as my GAS has become chronic of late.

I've never been to one, but it would be cool to go one day just to see what it is like.

Well, it's crowded, tough to park and far to walk. On the plus side there's nowhere on the planet (except maybe Frankfurt Messe in the spring) with so much gear in one place at the same time. And some of them will sell what they are exhibiting at great prices rather than ship back after the show.:D

True. My Local GAS Station (we're 90 miles from Anaheim) has been buying his pick of the US Music booth stuff (Washburn, Oscar Schmidt, Randall Amps, etc) every year for about 12 years, and the past couple, has made the same kind of deals with Hoshino (Ibanez, Cort, etc) and Kaman (Ovation, Takamine, LP and TOCA percussion, etc).

And most manufacturers have their 'NAMM Show Special Pricing' deals, as they seek more dealers. Last year, with Fender acquiring Kaman around this time, and already owning Gretsch (Guitars, not drums), he became a Gretsch dealer with what he scored from thier booth to open inventory. He also scored a Schecter dealership, same way.

Before he goes, he takes a 'wish list' from his 'regular' customers (moths drawn to the flame like me who stop in at least once a week) and will try to score. He also gets a few guest passes and doles them out.

Rents a truck and hauls it all back, then has his annual NAMM 50% Off sale. Regular customers know it's coming, like a GAS-O-Mania extension to Christmas. Before he opens the sale to the public, he does a 'preview' for the regulars and tells them what's coming, even calls or e-mails.

And so, I love/hate Winter NAMM.

This is true. Members have to pay around $200 a year and are then entitled to a certain number of free passes. It really is a business oriented event and not a gear superstore. Still, if you have a friend in the business you could always be someone's "employee" for a few days.;)

Funny I thought that the Kingpin (5th Ave with P90), the Richmond Belmont, & the Richmond Dorchester were all revealed at last year's NAMM.

Reverend Pete Anderson hollowbody with 2 90s & a Bigsby!

It's got a laminated spruce top & laminated maple sides. Reverend raves about the virtue of their new Unibrace, but I didn't quite understand the description.
It's even got a hidden nitrous tank for you jamphans. ;)

List is $1429 however. I think that is the most expensive Rev so far.

Well tOt, if you say it's the berries, that's good enough for me. I'll place my order tonight.:D

I am always hesitant to recommend something just because I like it. It may be because I come from another planet & I'm used to people not understanding my ways. As a barbarian in Japan you should be able to relate. ;)

I'm looking forward to hearing your reactions to the 5th Ave.

Anyone going there? Mark Wein?

Don from www.Mackamps.com will be there with all his cool Mack amps. If you are there, be sure to go there and try them. I'm curious to see what others think of the Mack amps.

I'd love to go to NAMM sometime. Seems like there would be a lot of drooling to do. Might be worth bringing a bib or apron to drool on.

Yes, I'll be there. In fact, taking a break from packing right now. I'll check out the Mack Amps. They must be good because when I clicked on their link,
their "virtuoso tone" nearly blew my head off. Guess my speakers were a tad high maybe...
Frankly I am already tired thinking about the 24 hours it will take me to get to So. California but once there, NAMM is definitely drool worthy.
That reminds me...pack bib...
Thanks Robert:D

Just a quick NAMM report. Jetlag and pounding the floor has left me duller than usual but here are some quick impressions...

1). Carr amps are very nice. I want one.

2). Peerless Guitars from Korea. Some very nice hollowbody guitars, Very well made, very nice prices. Would love to hear from anyone who owns one.

3). I agree Mudcat about the Suhr headstock. I never liked it either but the guitars are otherwise undeniably stunning. I like their T-shirts too so I bought 2...:AOK:

Caught Yngwie Malmsteen:rockon: wowing the faithful on video. I'll try and post something when I get home.

...

My '05 Epi Casino is a Peerless and it's Flawless.;)

My Local GAS Station owner was at the show yesterday (90 miles away), doing what he and so many California dealers do every year: scoring deals with various manufacturers from out of the area on buying out their display models (so they can save on packing & shipping them back home).

He goes with a 'wish list' from his regular customers. Nothing from me on his list this year, but he'll be back at the store today. If I'm done early enough with my Saturday Honey-Do List, I plan to stop in and see what he's got coming back on Monday for his Annual NAMM 50% Off Sale.

I know this much: for the first time in at least 12 years, partially due to the economy, but mainly due to consistently poor quality, factory-defective guitars for the past year and a bad attitude about making good on their warranty by USA Music, he's NOT buying the Washburn/Oscar Schmidt booth, but may score some Randall amps. Last year, he bought enough Gretsch and Schecter to open with them as a Dealer.

Well, NAMM is finished and I have traded the sunny, 80 degree L.A. winter for the hazy, 17 degree Beijing version. I'll post thoughts, pics and video when I get home, but for now a few preliminaries.

Syo, did you get a chance to try the Mack amps? Please do if you can and let us know what you think!

Finally tracked down Mack at the show. They did not have their own booth but had one of their combos in the Eastwood Guitars booth. Didn't play on one myself but Wendell of Eastwood was demoing an Eastwood Tuxedo on it while I was there. I talked with Don Mackrill, Chief Tone Officer (that's what it says on the card). Very nice guy and quite passionate about his product. His amps (or amphs if you prefer) are presented as basically boutique amps for "the rest of us" (my quotes). He eschews high priced components believing they are unnecessary and opts instead for "off-the-shelf, reliable parts" (his quotes). I must say though that what I was heard when Wendell was playing didn't grab me. Not really my sound. After the show I checked Mack's website and listened to the sound files. Perhaps if you hear them and like what you hear then they might be for you, but what I heard at the show was similar and to me it lacked a certain warmth and depth that I prefer. One other thing, If I'm not mistaken I believe Don said that he doesn't offer reverb on any of his units. Neither good or bad, just depends on you.

Tell me please Robert, have you played with a Mack? If so, what did you think?

Do you indeed? Well then, I loved it ;)
But seriously I will definitely check your vids out. A busy convention floor with volume restrictions is admitedly not the best place to evaluate such equipment. That being said, a couple other "boutique" amps, most notably the Carr, grabbed me right away. Of course Carrs are a bit more expensive and are designed to sound great at low volumes.
