This is the website for Little Lanilei amps. All tube, point to point wiring. They have a few different types. Check these out:

SWEET!!! OK, you knowledgeable gurus of the TUBES......any reason to not get one of these. Each one has headphone jack, attentuation-like volume controls, easy connection for speakers/cabs......the WORKS.

Getting a bad case of GAS just reading about these.

What it's not is all tube, PTP construction. They only claim PTP wiring to the tube sockets. I'd suspect a PCB carrying the bulk of the circuitry. Now, as for the tubes, there's a 12AU7 in the preamp and a 12AX7 used as a low powered tube output stage. This then feeds a solid state power amp of about 50 watts or 33 with the internal speaker (hence the 3350 designation) via an attenuator. This is very similar to the way VOX Valvetronix power amps work. To get 30-50 watts out of a tube power stage you'd need 4 EL84s or a pair of 6l6's (or similar) and you wouldn't fit them in that 8"x8"x7" box let alone dissipate the heat produced or contain a power supply with enough muscle to drive them. Nor would you get an output transformer in there. The website uses the classic trick of buzzwords (tube, ptp in this case) but to be fair they don't hide the real specs in the fine print.

Buy one if you like the sound, I think they're pretty cool but then I'm not hung up on tube vs SS. All in all quite a neat design.

MarkB,
Thanks for your reply. OK, what you said makes sense. So, would the !/4 watt model tend to be "pure" tube then?

Yeah, I think the 1/4watt model is all tube. It's the same idea without the SS power stage and attenuator. There's probably some SS jiggery-pokery going on in the preamp to get "high-gain" sounds but then "all-tube" Marshalls have used a pair of clipping diodes in the pre-amp since the JCM800 series.

Something like this would be more like it (for the purists) but you won't get any high-gain tones out of a 5F1 circuit. Before anyone gets into the merits of various 5F1 kits I picked this one at random from a Google search :)

Looks like it may be similar to this one......
1.5w.... Vood and Shiner each built one, IIRC.

Why is it that the soundclips always sound very good on the website, but when you get it home it always sounds............ ok. Shame they cant post clips using three diff guitars, fender squire, Gibson and a really cheap brand

Thats marketing for you !

The Valve Jr or the Blackheart 3/5 are outstanding heads and you can get a Epi v Jr one by twelve cab inexpensively that will work with both or either head. These are, needlesstosay, outstanding amps.

Hope this helps. And they are proven designs and not expensive.
