You're welcome. There's even more pentatonics that can be used.... stay tuned.

Default More Pentatonic Scales in Blues

This is an old thread but it piqued my interest as this is a question I had a while back.

    My understanding is this ...

Why does the A minor, F# minor, B minor and E minor pentatonic work over an A7 chord?

An A7 chord is the 5th of the key of D major. The harmonized D major scale is:

Dmaj Emin F#min Gmaj A7 Bmin Cdim

therefore, the Emin, F#min and Bmin pentatonics work great over the A7 (they are all in the key of Dmaj). And, of course, the "blues scale", Amin pentatonic, works too.

I believe this is correct. If not, please let me know.

Oh, by the way, this is the most incredible guitar forum on the entire Internet!

The harmonized D major scale is:

Dmaj Emin F#min Gmaj A7 Bmin Cdim
Almost... the last chord would be C#dim, not Cdim.

As for your analysis, you are perfectly correct!
