Default Looking for Inexpensive Guitar Recommendation

One of my daughters friends is interested in buying my Washburn, but I am reluctant to sell it. I would like to give the kid a lesson in buying a guitar, so he can make wise decisions now and in the future.

The kid just stares at the Washburn and was only at the house when the pups were being swapped out, so he has yet to hear it play. Essentially he is caught up in "eye candy". To be fair to him, I want him to go out and test drive some other guitars. I think if I keep him in the $250 to $375, I will be directing him in his price range.

I know Epi has some models that would catch his interest as it relates to body style (LP), but I would want to suggest some others. He has a Squier Strat, but he is not pleased with it (most likely the very low end of Squier). Another one I was thinking is the Ibanez ART100 ($299).

    Any suggestions?

Edit: I just checked out the ART100 and they have a new color being released (previously only black, silver, or white)

It has me gassing - maybe I will sell the Washburn and buy one of the ART100's

I was looking at ESP's the other day. I never paid much attention to them and really don't know any pros or cons on them. They appear to be a decent guitar.

I'll add it to the list to have him check out.

Mark, as long as you keep him away from pointy guitars, he'll be ok.
    Might poke his eye out.

    Define "inexpensive"?
I'm getting a new model LP Ultra so my other Ultra will be up for grabs.

That's my fear - In teaching a kid to shop, research, and then buy, I may end up being the one buying.

I'll PM my e-mail for some pics.

Uhhgghhhh, I'm heading down the wrong road.

Old pic w/old-man ponytail... sans goatee & moustache, (which have since somehow reappeared !)

Ultra is an unusually great rocker/blues unit... the chambered body gives it a very unique growl and the contoured backside makes it extremely comfortable:

Mmmm, good. I like the look of an Ultra. I like those contours. I did not know about those.
