Exclamation the "tally the damage" thread

Haven't seen one of these in awhile, but recently responded to one elsewhere, and thought I'd see what type responses we get here.

The concept is real simple. How much dosh have you got in the gear you currently own? You can subdivide or exclude as you see fit (such as limiting to electric guitars, or also include basses, or acoustics, or amps, or PA gear or pedals, etc.) and can just give a total, or give breakdowns either by item or class.

I'll start with my own somewhat shocking (at least to me) numbers. However, some of this stuff goes back to the '70's and early '80's so at least it's not like I acquired all this mess all at once.

Guitars/basses (any "99" prices rounded to even hundred):

Sonia $62.50 '60 Duo-Sonic (rounded up to $65 for addition purposes)
    Brownie $125 Tex-Mex Tele Special
Blondie $400 '52 RI Telecaster (w/OHSC and all case candy)
    Seven $100 Squier MIJ P-Bass
    Ruby $225 DeArmond Jet Star
    Blue $200 Ovation Breadwinner
    Chrissie $450 Hamer USA Special
Cherie $525 Les Paul Studio DC (w/non-orig’l HSC)
Nell $200 Fender Standard Jazz Bass (w/OHSC)
Violet $100 “parts” Telecaster w/Seymour Duncan mini-hum in neck
Raquel $400 Fernandes Ravelle (w/Seymour Duncan HB’s)(w/non-orig’l gigbag)
    Valerie $99 Agile P-90 Valkyrie
    Theresa $200 1980 Peavey T-60 (w/OHSC)
Cassie $750 Les Paul Classic (w/OHSC)
Joan $235 Gretsch Electromatic Special Jet
    Rickie <$250> Rickenbacker 620
    Candy $100 Preavey Predator Strat
Stormy $250 Schecter Tempest Special (w/OHSC)
    Corrine $100 Brownsville Choirboy
Goldie $300 Epiphone Ltd. Ed. Custom Shop WildKat
    Dani $250 Danelectro Hodad
Farrah $125 Peavey USA Fury Bass
    Daisy $250 Daisy Rock Retro-H 12-string
    Birdie $100 Epiphone Thunderbird bass

    12-String $150 ‘70's Yamaha acoustic
Acoustic Gift ‘70's MIJ no brand
    Mandolin $85 Oscar Schmitt
    Banjo Gift Pirles brand
    Ukelele $30 Johnson

    Amps:

    Fender Super Reverb Amp (US 4x10 all-tube 40 W), blackface, 1966, modded into 2 2x10 cabs ($300)

Sovtek MiG50H "Tube Midget" (Russian, 2000 all-tube) amplifier head ($199)

Sunn 200S (US, 1960s, all-tube 60W) Bass head that doubles for guitar also (~$275)

Risson 4x12 slant front cab (US, 1980's) ($100)

Kustom 100, matching head (US 1970's 100 W solid state) and ported cab (1x15) ($225)

Ampeg SVT bass cab (US 1970's? 8x10) ($225)

    Crate BX-200 bass head (200 W solid state US 1995) ($200)

    Woodson 250 matching bass head and 1x15 cab (US 1970's? 250W ?-- on semi-permanent loan)(free)

    Boggs-0-sonic Cigarbox amp ~$35 (?)

DIY 2x8 Fender guitar cab (? unknown-- not even sure where I got this!)

DIY 2x12 Celestion guitar cab $90

DIY 2x10 bass cab (Peavey PA cab/Carvin bass speakers) $50

Peavey Valve King Royal 8 tube amp $100

    Crate GX40C 2x8 amp $80

Total: unless I mis-added, I get $7985, and since I can't remember what I paid for the little 2x8 cab, but I know I paid something, we'll just call it 8 grand. I don't have a good list of PA stuff, mics, stands, effects, cases/bags bought separately (not reflected in above prices) and other gear (like an old Farfisa keyboard I have), but there's another grand there easy. So best guess, at least $9000!

    Your turn!

    Cost or value?
I have a number of collectables that cost nothing, (passed on from my mother, relatives, sponsers, promos, endorsements, etc.)... value is significant.

Cost. I'm looking at what we've actually paid. Otherwise I'd have to do estimates on probably half my guitars that I got great deals on and could sell for considerably more.

So happens I just went thru this for insurance purposes a few months ago. All my gear is not covered under standard insurance - they figure the "average" person has one or two guitars and one amp +/-, so I had to add a rider to cover my stuff.

All the gear you see in my signature is also approx $9,000, although I got the Swart since then, and the Hardwire pedal, so let's make it $10,000!

Stuff like this can make you kinda sick if you think about it too much!
But at my age I think I've learned alot abt what's important in life - my life anyway. I coulda had a new car w that $, but my gear means a whole lot more to me than any stinkin new car!

My rationalization: divided out over 35 years of playing, it's only $260/year!

Krash, rationalization works for me - in most any situation!

Using yours, over 45 years for me (although not all of them active) is like $222/year - although I've bought the bulk of my gear in the last 3 years, so I'll prorate it, or whatever you call it.

(Most of the stuff I sold off from the 60s and early 70s is worth well over $100,000 today! OY!) :

Yeah, for the first half of the 35 years I had very little in the way of gear, compared to now. Most of it's come in the 90's and 00's.

    Well, lessee:
    Floyd Rose DST-3 plus pups/mods: $405
    Fender Showmaster Celtic H: $250
    Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz: $30
    Digitech EX-7: $155
    Digitech CF-7: $40
    Behringer TO800: $30
    Vox AD30VT: $250
Ragin Cajun for the AD30VT: $65
    Vox VFS-2 Footswitch: ~$25
    Spector Performer: $180
    Acoustic B20: $123
    1-Spot with Multi-plug: $30

    Total: $1583

If you count my Peavy Blazer, Squier '51, and Zoom 505II that were "re-gifted" to my son, you can add $300 to that. There would also be some miscellaneous stuff in there like cords, strings, my bass gig bag, etc.

Very little of this was purchased with "my" cash. Most of it came via money that was given to me as a gift for my birthday, Christmas, or for doing weddings/funerals. My DST-3 was purchased by selling my Charvel Model 7 at a slight profit. This is all over the course of about the past 12 years.

So are you saying what we paid for it prices or fair market value to replace those items today?

Haha, at 17 my total was... zero.

I had an acoustic my dad gave me, and my folks bought me a very crappy Sears electric guitar and little amp.

Either way, a very modest sum for a rich lawyer.

I didn't even include any of my pedals.

Not that I could remember what I paid for any of them anyhow. I know that the last two I got I won in contests on another (very small) forum I'm on, that has contests among the membership. When there's like a dozen people in the contest pool, odds of winning are pretty darn good. I won a Bad Monkey and a modded late version Tube Screamer.

Or the not so rich lawyer. EDIT: Also goes to show you can get some nice, credible gear these days for not that much. EndEDIT I realize I left off books, straps, straplocks, etc. Oh well, it really should be the bigger stuff. Either way, the sum does not reach the retail price of my dream acoustic guitar.
