Here are a couple bands I'm listening to, that I found on myspace as a result of friend requests.

First, some garage/power pop from the Midwest. Read these guys likes/influences list, live by it:

Here's something more experimental, indie/postpunk from right here in Gainesville. Reminds me of early Television and Talking Heads, but the singer sounds a bit like Mick Jagger/David Johanssen:

Skip the song "Balls & Walls," though. It's basically a strafing run of F-bombs.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Geez, I don't think I could even name that many bands.

These two albums are in super-heavy rotation right now.

    1.

This first one is a MUST for anyone who calls themselves a fan of Marc Ribot. Along with the Lucien Dubuis Trio album from a few months back, this album provides example after example of why Ribot is my guitar hero. For those who have only heard the name John Zorn and are a bit hesitant of his experimental reputation, this is the album to get. The Dreamers represent Zorn at his most accessible. Trust me, if you like Marc, you will love this.

    2.

Two words: Wayne Rogers (not the one from M*A*S*H*)
The guy is one interesting guitarist for sure. Certainly not for everyone's tastes, but if you like the guitar sounds from bands like the MC5 or Dinosaur Jr. (or even Pete Cosey's work with Miles in 73 comes to mind) then you might want to check this one out.

Hey R_of_G! Nice to see you posting! I had not heard much from you and was wondering lately how things were going.

The electric version of this is playing for me right now, in my head as I get ready to go coach skiing, after getting some gnarly law work done.

    Thanks Steve.

Haven't had as much time lately as I used to but I've been lurking. By the way, I think both the Nick Curran & The Lowlifes (Reform School Girl) album and the Major Stars album (Return to Form) I've posted in this thread recently would appeal to your tastes.

Currently playing (with the Final Four on with no sound) is an Elvis Costello tour rehearsal set from 1991 with some guy named Ribot on guitar

    RIP Malcolm McLaren.

In his honor, starting today with this one from the brief period of his association with the Dolls...
