I walk the dog at a city park just a couple miles from home. It's right on the Willamette River, very large with woods trails as well as open areas and a paved multi-use path. Anyway, I see lots of birds - vultures, Osprey, Great Blue Heron, various water fowl and most special, Bald Eagles. I recently had a "National Geographic moment" with an eagle chasing after an osprey clutching a large trout. As the eagle closed in, the osprey dropped the fish from about 50 feet up. I guess he needed to ditch the fish in order to get away. I don't know whether the osprey stole the fish, or the eagle wanted to steal the fish, or the eagle was protecting nest/territory. Whatever. Imagine the thwock when the fish hit the ground from 50 feet up, not more than 100 feet from where I stood. The whole thing was inspiring.
I sometimes see bull and garter snakes, both harmless. And since the park is dog-friendly, I see lots of dogs and puppies. Oh, and mosqitoes.
