    Default DIY Guitar Rack

For anyone who may be interested in building a guitar rack:

I recently built a rack that holds 3 electric and 2 acoustic guitars.

You can view or download the drawing plans:

    General Assembly
    Detail 1
    Detail 2
    Details 3 & 4
    Details 5 & 6
    Details 7 & 8

If anyone needs assistance modifing these plans to build a rack for any another combination of guitars.....give me a shout....and I'll gladly help.

Very nice work, though I wouldn't recommend the foam for a lacquer finish.

A nice felt rolled a couple of times, or foam wrapped in felt might look nicer and be more kind to lacquer.

I agree with you 100%. The foam I used at the top was the second type of material I had used on the rack. I had used an EPDM originally and it was horrible! Felt material just may prove to be a better solution unless I can locate a better alternative that won't deform under pressure.

    Hey, stranger :
Just get a package of adhesive felt sheets at your friendly local Lowe's or Home Depot...used to put under lamp bases and such. Comes in green or brown. I cut pieces to fit and cover all the foam thingys on my guitar stands, hangers, and rack.

That won't be thick enough to protect the neck against the edge of the wood. It will have to be thicker and probably rolled or applied around hi-density foam and then mounted.

If the inside curved edge was rounded off at the top, the thinner felt would work great.

I cover all different types of foam with it. Hi-density, spongy, whatever...Works fine.

Hey, that is cool. In my new music area I will have, that might be a nice option if I don't want to use all wall hangers. Wall hangers would be easier, but I worry a bit about sun, and/or general exposure to rec room mischief. At least they are turned to the side in the rack to minimize that kind of exposure, and the rack could be placed to avoid sun exposure too.

Agreed, kiteman. Plus, I just don't have the floor space for a stand/rack.

But a very nice rack there, 60s guy (Geez, I never thought I'd be sayin that to a guy! )

I remember someone made a stand out of PVC pipes. I think it was in my local craigslist, he wanted $30 and it holds 5.
