Default New Sheraton II has landed! *PICS*

    G'day all,

I picked her two weeks back and have run the S/N's = Made in Unsung Korea, April 2009 w/3 piece maple neck. It is an absolutely stunning guitar, got a set up into the sale price and it plays beautifully; I can't say enough good things about these. I did try some Gibby ES-335's for comparison and the Gibby was very nice also - but the Sherry holds it's own I have to say and I came away with the guitar wanted.

Upgrades to follow - 57's, new wiring and switches + Bigsby.

The maple figured finish is actually gorgeous ... the caramel/honey burst works for me I have to say and blends so well with the gold hardware that I'm keeping the gold as is; it doesn't stick out at all on this finish - it gleams like the highlights of honeyed goodness which only serves to underpin her classy curves. She takes her place beside my Gretsch.

    So without further ado ...

    G'day Even,

Well the thing of it is, is that the Sheraton II is a fabulous guitar but the stock pick ups are a weak point and there really are better PU's to be had. You can't leave the plastic nut on there ... it requires replacing if you care about tone and intonation. The pots that usually ship are 300K I believe which doesn't help so when you change out the pick ups you might as well do it right and replace the pots with 500k's and re-do the wiring and switches.

The Sheraton II as a stock guitar is an incredible platform for some very basic upgrades ... once upgraded they are the equal of any 335 I've played. I have friends who own Epi's Sheratons who prefer their upgraded Sherry's to their Gibby 335's ... shock horror. It comes down to wanting this guitar to be the best that it can be - the upgrades will ensure that is the case and as a professional musician I wouldn't have it any other way.

    Best, Tiki.

Having owned 2 Sheratons I agree on a couple of points. Bone nut, and the switches are a given. I for one like the Epi Pickups. Of course I have several Gibson LPs, and and ES335. I like the fact the stock pickups are a bit muddy, and they really take pedals well. Nothing wrong with upgrading your guitar, and of the two I prefer the neck on the Sheraton over my Gibby.
The 57s are really nice in a Sheraton. It will be a killer axe but you will never get your money out of it. So keep her forever.
