Here is another idea for playing over 7th chords.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Very nice video (as usual) Robert. I like soloing over dominant chords, very nich touch to add the major 7...

You dont record much with the SX btw?

    Dominant Chords!
I can't say that I've given up on a flanger cause I've never liked the effect either. I also can't say the same about Tremolo. I hate them both equally. - Tone2TheBone 2009

    Haha, you win!

I use the SX too, it's just random which guitar I pick!

Aha... well the ยด51 sounds amazing! What amp/model did you use? Very nice sound.

    I used my Hellhound + Avatar 2x12 with a DOD FX80B Compressor/Sustainer.

    Great stuff Robert!

I love these sounds. I've been exploring some of this arpeggio substitution stuff over the past year or two and I really like the sounds you can get with some of these.

I was reading some articles by Larry Carlton (one of my favorite players) and he uses these kinds of techniques. That Maj7 over the b7 degree gives it a really cool sound. It works great when you're playing over a dominant chords with a sus4 also. I hear George Benson going for that sound in his solos too.

Some other cool substitutions that I've found for dominant7 chords is to play minor7 arpeggios over the 5th and 6th degrees. You probably know most of these already, but I though that I would add that for anyone else who might be new to the whole concept of substituting different arpeggios over chords.

Thanks for the video again. -- Jim
