If you want a DVD writer, I'd opt for an external firewire based DVD drive. You should be able to find something like this http://reviews.cnet.com/dvd-drives/l...7-6297480.html second hand.

If you just want an internal DVD reader, you can get any IDE based DVD player and replace the internal CDROM drive with it.

While you are doing the upgrade, you might want to add a little more RAM -- two 512MB simms on the old powerpc-based Macs really helps out.

    Cheers.

would that be suitable for a Digital-audio (533MHz) powermac G4?

ive got 2 SDRAM modules in at the moment, a 512 and a 128. Id intend to replace the 128 with the 512. 1GB memory.

I think you might need PC133 DIMMS for the "Digital-audio" powermac: http://www.canadaram.com/apple_powermac_g4.htm

That said, I'd stick to the 640MB unless you find the machine sluggish. I had an old G4 iMac that I used for iTunes and web surfing and it ran just fine with 640MB.

    Cheers.
