Seems like Epiphone could have come up with a somewhat shorter moniker.

But, whatever, I played one of these today at a local Sam Ash and was very impressed. Solid Spruce top and Solid mahogany back, lam Mahogany sides. Fit and finish looked good. Out the door, inc. Fla taxes, with a non epi hard case for $481. Wonderful bright sound. The shadow pickup system I did not test. Came this close..... Common sense kicked in (hate it when that happens) but really, another dread????

Nice to hear they finally have remedied their botched 1966 version of the Texan. I have owned at least three dozen guitars since 1955 and my 1966 Texan was the worst sounding guitar in the bunch. It was made shortly after Gibson went to the double X cross bracing. I'd heard great things about the pre-1965 versions but never played one. Bought mine mail order on sale for $169, sold it three weeks later for $120. Terrible guitar.

I've known people with early 60s Texans who rave about them. But do you really want a J45 with a deformed headstock ?
