Default How much you paying for phone service?

We have the triple play from Comcast for our landline plus internet plus tv. Then my wife and I have pay-as-you-go cells from Virgin Mobile. I would love to have an iPhone but the data plan is out of the question.

I have the iPhone with Rogers. In Canada, with 500 MB of data, it currently costs $50 per month with the "cheapest" plan. Yeah, it's a ripoff.

Do you get unlimited calling and long distance with that plan? If so that would be a very good deal where I live. It's $100 per month for the base package to do any texting or data.

I pay up the WAZOO!! I live in Philly....so I have DIRECTV at $95 per month for TV, TIVO. Then we have VERIZON at $130/mth for land-line phone (answering machine and internet security) and they are my ISP. Then I finish off with VERIZON WIRELESS at $105/mth for our 3 cellphones. It hurts every time I bend over. Sheesh.

Yes, but you live in Finland, and my guess is they have not left the telecom infrastructure up to corporations?

My land line/long distance/dsl is about $80 and 3 cell phones are about the same. I've been contemplating killing the land line completely.
Directv is $65 until they realize I have too many discounts but I have a lot of channels, dvr and hd.
I get annoyed paying two phone bills and I'm considering dumping everything and going to the cheapest dsl for a while to see if it really makes a difference. I may have to put up with a little slower connection but hey, it beats dial up anyway.

$40/month for voice only. Data is fine if the company is paying for it.
I actually hate smell phones, and how people get all caught up in them as status symbols, etc.

However, this Clapton Fender phone at least looks cool!

Landline home phone, barebones no long distance Verizon service: $27/mo.

AT&T Cell Family Plan...3 phones... a Samsung smartphone of some kind with a touch screen and all that sexy stuff...(my daughter is a cellphone junkie), 2 Motorola Karmas for my wife & I are 'smart' enuff, QWERTY keyboard slides out, I like they're stereo music players and can shoot video - with a microSD card and 'phones, it's practically an i-pod...1100 anytime minutes (unused rollover), unlimited nights/weekends & mobile-to-mobile...unlimited text/messaging... unlimited nationwide long distance, that's $135/mo for the works ($30 of it is the text/mssging)... unlimited data is $10 per phone extra, but not doing that...yet.

Cable for TV & hi-speed net. A gazillion channels (we like movies w/o going out and dropping 30 bucks, and I like sports), 2 HD boxes. Would be about $130 just for the tube and 5$0 for the net, but I walk in with a Direct TV ad & my Verizon bill (could get FIOS or DSL...) and threaten to jump ship once a year, and somehow, they get me 'down' to $130/month for the lot.

I understand the networks are built and maintained by companies, not the government...I'm not that sure, but there is always talk about how the government requires the companies to ensure also the remote locations have proper access to basic communication lines. I understand that the companies are obligated to offer a minimum of 300kb data access and telephone access anywhere in Finland up to the farthest polar regions. There's been talk it should be a minimum of a megabyte-line anywhere.

There's been a lot of debate now they've pretty much scrapped all landlines already because the network companies think they are too expensive to maintain, that old country people don't know how to use a cell phone, so they install these GSM boxes there, where you can hook your old landline phone and it works just like a landline but is really GSM.

However, I do understand cable tunnels and lots of things like that in infrastructure is also built/cooperated with cities or townships/government.

I also understand that when I was a kid, the post office, railroads and telecommunications and lots of the factories/wood industry was owned and driven by the government, but these days they are all sold to private owners and run as business companies...dunno if the government really owns anything here any more.

But I do know the law mandates some services that those companies must maintain to keep their licence to operate; such as remote areas data and commuting services etc. even when they don't sustain themselves financially.

Hell, there was just news of this remote airport that they are actually getting the government offer free seats to capital flights for the area's residents, as otherwise it is just too expensive to maintain the airfield and routes. So the government dips in to make the route just maintainable for the company, and the residents get free rides whenever there is room on the plane...

I love them :-) Actually I don't know how would I survive without mine. I don't carry any memo or schedule things or pens, so my smartphone has my schedules and memos and everything; checks the weather and alerts of emails and guides me in the car with SatNav...all the way to Facebook etc. if I lose it, I'm completely at a loss what am I gonna do, LOL...can't live without 'em any more no way....good thing it's all online backed up, or I'd REALLY be knee deep in it if I lost my phone...

I pay 41 usd /month for landline phone, 100mbs broadband and 100+ channels digital tv (around 20 is HD channels). I dont have a iphone yet but a 3GS 16gb with unlimited data plan vill cost me around 55 usd/month.
I can't say that I've given up on a flanger cause I've never liked the effect either. I also can't say the same about Tremolo. I hate them both equally. - Tone2TheBone 2009
