Default Michael Katon heavy blues player/singer

I happened upon a cool player today. Michael Katon.

He's a very authentic sounding gritty blues player residing currently in Hell. Yes, that is correct Hell, Michigan USA. I always knew Michigan could be difficult, but Hell? I bet the mayor is so proud. Anyway, I digress...

He's been putting out records since 1984. 10 of them in all. So far everything I've heard is a blues players delight, from a road house perspective.

This is the guy that you would love to see when you pull off the road for the night, check into some seedy little fleabag motel in the middle of nowhere and then can't sleep because of all the noise from the bar next door. You get dressed, go over to the bar (which is packed with people), make your way through the sweaty mass of gyrating human flesh to the stage only to end up captured by the same voodoo magic as everyone else. You end up dancing till 3 am oblivious to everything except the hypnotic pulse of the beat and the pseudo-human onstage teasing his guitar into other worldly sounds. Ya, that's him alright.

    Check it out.

Cool. I've seen ads for this guy's CDs in guitar magazines. Hell ain't a bad place to be?

I saw him life once in a club that is only a few miles away from my house.

Katon is honest and raw and as always the cds don't do justice to his "real" playing.

He has a very hard way of playing and it seems that he soaked up all different styles. If I remember right, he played the complete gig with only one blue Fender Strat..

    A very cool player definitely.

Sounds great... really not just another SRV wannabee from hell.
I can't say that I've given up on a flanger cause I've never liked the effect either. I also can't say the same about Tremolo. I hate them both equally. - Tone2TheBone 2009
