Need a good electronics/pickup primer

Hi all,

I've been trying to construct a working knowledge of impedance, pickup output, grounding, loads, etc. for some time, but am at the point where I'd like a good reference for how all of this fits together, starting at the beginning and explaining it step by step. Do any of you have a recommendation for a book or some other reading that might help me fit it all together and understand the electric side of things?

I'm interested not only in current/impedance/voltage/grounding/etc., but also stuff like gain stages, diode clipping, compression, etc. Recommendation do not necessarily have to be guitar-only (for the electrical part, anyway), but that is my point of reference.

I found a couple of books on Amazon, but they seem to have mixed reviews.

If you want to buy a book, Amazon has Electronics for Dummies, which is pretty good. If you're starting from scratch and want a good, but non-technical intro the the concepts, There Are No Electrons: Electronics for Earthlings by Ken Amdahl is good.

You might check at your local library, the electronics books are in the 621.381 area in a Dewey-cataloged library.

A good book is Paul Horowitz's The Art of Electronics
