Default Bands & Artists you got... Late!

Instead of bands we don't get, or bands we no longer like, how about...
Bands and artists that we didn't give a chance/didn't listen to, etc., until later in their career.

This especially includes someone who changed and then you started liking because of that change, like a specific album or lineup change.

For me it would have to be a lot of blues guys: the Kings, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, etc. I didn't really get into the blues at all until I first heard Stevie Ray Vaughan. That got me listening to some of his influences. I mean, I knew who B.B. King was, but that was about the extent of it.

I feel you. I can count on one hand the bands I haven't discovered late. The funny thing is when you take the same route to bands as some other people (e.g. discovering Wilco via Yankee Hotel Foxtrot), but then you get so into them you feel like you've known them far longer than everyone else. That happens to me on a regular basis.

Of note for me would be King's X, Uncle Tupelo, Pixies, Ryan Adams, New Pornographers, etc.

    For me it's been:
    The Flower Kings
    Camel
    Cornerstone
    Aviary
    Eric Gales
    Gentle Giant
    It Bites
    Kevin Gilbert
    Pallas
    Spocks Beard
    XTC
    Talisman

and generally most of the really good progressive bands. Being stuck in the Rocky mountain west without internet only left me with what was on the radio which is crap. Thanks to the web my soul has been reborn.

The beatles...could not stand them in the 70s or 80s even....it was not until maybe the late 90's early 2000s that I started enjoying their work.

Hated Neil Young until I was like 22.
Hated Iron Maiden until 2 years ago.

Just now trying out Blue Oyster Cult and UFO--liking them a lot.

Trying hard right now with Thin Lizzy, but not digging them so much.

I didn't really lime ac/dc in my teens...and seriously disliked black sabbath w/ozzy until quite recently. I still don't like ozzy's voice in his solo & later career but I dig old sabbath a lot now.

I didn't really care for The Police until after they broke up. When I bought a guys whole record collection in 1985 he had all their albums. Then I discovered I loved them! And I could have seen them in concert, but passed.

Two bands I didn't get until "later" would be:

    The Cure
    Rush

I didn't get into the Cure or Rush until the early 90s... now they are two of my favorite bands of all time.
