So I figured this might go over well. Who knows. But I, for one, often post about Craig's Lists deals that I would like advice on, and I see others do from time to time. The idea is that we just post out questions or Craig's List scores here so they are easy to find.

This morning I scored a ~15 year old Vox Pathfinder 15 amp for $50. I'm picking it up tomorrow. I wish it had reverb, it's the version with tremolo only. But I've been wanting a Pathfinder for a while, so I'm looking forward to getting it.

Here's the original ad: http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/msg/1780977746.html

I don't know if the older pathfinders are better than the new ones or vice versa, but for $50 bucks, I'll give it a try. Looking forward to running input 2 of my Champ out to it.

Since this thread has been so popular, I figured I'd update it...

2 days ago, I nabbed a Blues Jr. for $275. Not a flaming hot deal, but better than buying one new.

This morning, there's a Peavy bandit 112 for $25, I've emailed that seller saying I'd take it, but he has not responded yet. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/msg/1833320589.html

There's also someone who says he's got a Fernandes guitar for $80. I've emailed him for more info, but still haven't heard back. Could it be something nice? http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/msg/1832938419.html

Dude,You are the Man!You find them bargains, are you going to start a music shop?Sumi:D

It's getting hard to sell my stuff on CL. My ads gets scrolled down deep because of spamming hock shops, music stores and loan stores. Funny thing is there's a place on CL for them to post for free but no, they have to screw up the individuals. Friggin ********.

Not really. For a little more you can have a new one built to your specifications.
Hmm. Even the third one? That one struck me as a decent deal, but I'm just trying to figure out pricing and all of that.

Eric, I think that first one is a pretty good deal. They have it listed as a DC127, but I'm pretty sure it's a DC200 since it has the MOP block inlays and active electronics. Carvin makes great guitars but they have horrible resale value. The third one still has two days left and will probably go up.

He did say it has a bunch of fret wear on the lower frets, so maybe that's a factor.

Yeah, I've discovered this recently -- isn't it great??

It is great. The DC727 I had was beautiful. It had a claro walnut body with a 5 piece walnut/maple neck. I bought it on Ebay for $400 if memory does serve. I sold it for $450 to justify buying my Modulus. Those were the days before I learned to live with my vices.

I got one...

Last Saturday, picked up a Stagg Les Paul copy (set neck, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, nice flame maple top, etc.) with a stand and gig bag (Fender, Strat went right in) and a stand... $50

It made me very happy... that's two killer deals in the last 30 days!!

Kijiji a.k.a. Ebayclassifieds

I've been finding good deals on Kijiji.ca... it's a classified site by Ebay. They recently rebranded/reconfigured the .com site for those South of the 49th. Way more popular here in Saskatchewan than CL. My finds so far:

04 MIM Strat: $250
Vox DA5: $100
Traynor YCV80: $600
Kenwood 5:1 Surround Sound system complete w/ sub: $150
2 amp/equipment racks: $40
Warmoth Vintage Modern Tele neck complete w/ tuners: $100

My wife hates Kijiji

I did nab that Peavey Bandit 112 for $25. It's going to need a little work, someone removed the ground pin from the plug and the High gain input doesn't work. I'll have it apart sometime to see what's up. It's built like a brick *********, that's for sure. It's the Sheffield version with Transtube technology, whatever that is.

Today I also nabbed a nice Fender hardshell case for my Tele, and did some reorganizing. I've got my Champ and my Blues Jr. mounted vertically stacked via some amp stands, and I ran the 2nd input from the Champ to the Blues Jr. I also got a little pedaltraiin Jr. pedalboard and a multioutput DC wall wart. I think I might be set for a little while.

I did order some upgrades for my Tele: a mint green pickguard, a wilkenson vintage style bridge with 3 brass barrels, some new pots and a new switch. I definitely do some before and after pics for that operation.

Dan, sfaik "TransTube" is just Peavey's tradename for it's circuit that supposedly makes solid state amps "sag" and respond more like a tube amp than would otherwise be the case.

Congrats on the score and good luck on the repairs.

What about this? $200 "8 guitars, 2 bodies(one body not pictured just found it) 9 new guitars straps, 8 complete strat style tremelo bridge assemblies (no whammy bars), and 5 new mono input jacks." Brand is BURSWOOD. I've never heard of it, but could a guy fix up these and sell them for profit? How much could you get for each guitar?

I don't see why not. Ask him for a closeup of the headstock.
I figured American fenders were more than that, even used. What do they typically run? I'm not really looking for another guitar, so it would probably have to be a good deal for me to get it.

Around a grand or so. The economy is pretty tanked so they're priced to sell. I should know as I priced my stuff what I thought is fair and they didn't sell.

Sorry, I actually meant what do they run used. I assume you gave a new price, since that's what I found from some quick browsing. Looking at ebay completed deals, it looks like they're still around $600-700 used.

I dunno. Do you think this is worth checking out and/or buying?

At 400, it'd be a no brainer. $475, still a good deal if you like the guitar and it's doesn't have a warped neck or something.

I love that blonde look, not so nuts over the PG.

Edit, also, just for fun...check this out: http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/msg/1929104465.html

It's the guy I traded that Champ to, for the Jackson Soloist Pro. Maybe I should offer him $175 for that Champ, ha ha.

OK, here we go:

It's a Highway 1 with a pro set up and goes for $700 new.

What's the deal with Highway 1s? They're obviously a bit cheaper than other models, but what are the technical differences?

I *think* they have bigger frets. And I thought they had rosewood fretboards, but clearly I was mistaken there. Also, the PUPs are Alnico III and wound pretty hot.

I'd say, if you weren't specifically looking for a tele, or really jonesing for one, you should offer $400, and if he says no, pass on it.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. You still think $400 is a good deal for a H1?

Edit: He also said previously that he's selling it because he needs money.

Highway 1s are US guitars with slightly cheaper hardware. The (nitro) finish is not polished out saving hours of labour. Since about '06 they have jumbo frets and "Hot Alnico 3" pickups. They are very good no nonsense Fenders, a step up from a MIM std which is right where they are priced.

Re the pickguard, white or black look great on honey blonde.

I've got him down to $400 for the guitar and case, no accessories. He seemed like he might even do $375 for just the guitar, but most likely not. Thoughts?
