Truth be told, java's "openness" is it's downfall. No unification means very little stability in the final product. Java does a lot of good things on the back end, but .NET is a very robust platform backed by o e of the worlds strongest software companies.
I like to relate it like this: .NET is like the iPhone, and java is like the droid. Each one has it's fans, but at the end of the day one will always been playing catchup
